Too bad England lost Beckham now that he is over in the USA! We should just go around before the next world cup and start drafting really good players for the MLS. Think how excited people that are stuck playing in places that nobody has ever even heard of, like Barcolona or Madrid (seriously, I those place have to be made up. The Madrid team is called Real, which is like when I tell girls I am a lawyer at the firm of Totallynotalie & Assoc. Lawyeraterium), would be to come over and play in America.

Think of how many dreams we could make come true. I can't even imagine how many European kids dream of one day being able to play soccer in the US's MLS rather than the UEFA, which I assume is ike a minor league or something.

Then, boom, we have a great US Team, with great players from all over the world! Why don't more teams do this for the world cup?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but players can only play for the country that they were born in.
Really, than why would a team pay millions and millions of dollars to bring him over here than if he just goes right back over to the enemy team come the big game? See, now your the one who is not making sense.

I know, but we got stuck with him for an inordinate amount of time, and we are still dealing with chef Ramsey. It was an allusion to hw we get England's hand-me-downs they don't want, just like we had to deal with those two annoying British celebrities in America, we have had to deal with the annoyance of the England created Standard Units and the Term Soccer instead of the far more logical term for it used everywhere else.

Now, calling football football was entirely on us. That was just lazy naming if you ask me. I assume they just watched the kickoff, named it, then called it a day before first down.

EDIT: Well then, disregard my retort as well. It would appear we are in agreement after all.
im not in complete agreement, saying you are like our (britain) little brother is contradictory when we take on most of your popular culture. you have taken alot of our more valued celebrities as you mentioned Hugh Laurie. There are probably alot more valued british celebs in America than there is worthless british celebs. You have Billy Connolly and im sure he'll be supporting you in the world cup alongside Gordon Ramsey (who is not english) ;)

also perhaps Gordon Ramsey could play for your football (soccer) team as he was a professional footballer for the team which i support (Glasgow Rangers).

i dont mean to stereotype but incase you are not aware Britain is NOT England, its a common mis-conception. In the same way that Texas is not new-york. Gordon Ramsey is not English, he is Scottish and probably supports America (and anyone else who plays England in the world cup)

sorry if i was patronising but its a common misconception amongst Americans who think Britain=England and that Scotland is in scandanavia somewhere

Anyone can play for a club team, but when it comes to the world cup, you can only play for your own nationality.

Well, my white Dempsey and blue Altidore jerseys hanging in my closet right now mean I WANT the US to beat England, and I think they CAN beat England, but England is still the favorite. Anyone who watched last years confederations cup should know that the US team can at least compete with anyone. I mean, they beat Spain and had a 2-0 lead at half against Brazil for fucks sake (for you people who dont pay attention to soccer/football, they're currently the 2 best teams in the world.)

I just hope that the team's expectations are ridiculously high that when the US loses to germany in the quarters that they fire Bob Bradley and hire a coach that doesnt pull all of our good offensive players at half with a lead so that we can bunker down and end up losing... seriously, who the fuck thinks you can play 45 minutes of straight defense against BRAZIL!!!! with a 2-0 lead and still win? Jürgen Klinsmann would fill that manager's seat very well

one can only hope, right?

I seem to remember the US doing surprisingly well in a World Cup not too long ago despite not getting much respect at all. They look to have a significantly better team this time. The English definitely have the better team on paper, but I feel like the English players all tend to be huge prima donnas, and not really have the heart in World Cup games.

Ha, they are so backwards over there. Drive on the left side of the road, call soccer football, and have their toilets flush in the opposite direction. Damn England, if you want to copy us so much, at least get it right.

Look at me, I'm in england. I call the color of the sky purple and a stop sign means speed. Seriously, England could you be any more lame. You guys are like Bizzaro us, just not as good.
Stop trolling before you get your ass reported.

As an American I want us to do well. However, I would never wish for us to win the world cup, or even at the moment beat England. We just don't give a rat's ass about Football here in the states. I personally love the World Cup and I'm gonna try to catch as many games as possible. I don't want us to win because it actually means something to you guys across the pond. However, I'm not throwing my lot in with the English, here comes the Netherlands!!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!!!

You think England are "prima donnas"? Just wait until you see Italy, a breeze could cause their players to dive to the floor. And Mexico seemed to have a higher tendancy to take a dive than England when they played their friendly.

Honestly, watching the World Cup and playing a drinking game I like to call "That guy is a pussy" is fun and hilarious. Basically, you watch the game and anytime someone takes a dive you drink... simple really. The dives can be really funny though, some of the crap they think they can get away with.

Don't care much about organized sports and the position they take in our society.

So, I guess I belong to the third poll option.

And football will always involve kicking balls with your feet, not carrying oversized eggs in your hands. Yay for football, boo for handegg.

Im expecting a 2 - 2 draw with a stale england attack and a lively US midfield. Englands mid is pretty decent and the defence is a touch shakey but should be fairly solid come game time.

US will be lively all over being the under dogs and are more than capable of coming away with a result...

I didn't know England had a national football team! Awesome! Is the US team just like whichever team one the superbowl, or do they just use the best players all around? Damn, I hope Eli Manning is QB. Peyton would also be awesome.

I am so excited. I never knew there were huge international games! I hope USA wins, we have just wanted it more for so long, you know!

TOUCHDOWN!

Jay Kay! Just practicing for when I actually watch the game.

I hope NASCAR does something like this soon. I think those people over in London, France, Italy, England and other city's in Europe would be amazed on how fast we drive. NASCAR would blow them away! They probably will try to enter all Mini Coopers or something stupid like that. Woooh, AMERICAN MUSCLE FTW!
I hope this a joke...
Of course its a joke...It has to be a joke. It is a joke right?.... Right?

I really really hope that the US wins but I doubt they will. It just seems like England is just a given to win against the US. I don't really follow soccer/football that much so I can't really argue about the state of teams but realistically I think England win

Yes, I am quite aware that England and Britain are not interchangeable. But, due to the broader scope of people that that are British, it is easier to just say British rather than English because it save me from misplacing the English and Scottish accent, and I don't even know what the accent of the folks from Wales sounds like, so, I like to err on the side of safety. Which, as you see, I wish I would have done with Ramsey. I took a guess and failed.

Also, take it easy on getting defensive about the British celebrities. That was purely just to make an amusing allusion to us getting stuck with your cast-offs measurement and names. It took me about 3 minutes of trying to think of someone other than James Blunt as a British celeb I didn't like, which shows considering my second choice was Chef Ramsey, a chef on a reality show. So, don't need to get offended, I could not even think of one British actor in Hollywood I did not like, and believe me, I tried. So, yeah, enjoy Lindsay Lohan once she gets out of that alcohol bracelet thing. Enjoy that American Treasure.

Oh, and I do not know a single person who thinks Scotland is in Scandanavia.

I don't watch/care about football, but we're the only ones to call it by it's correct name, so I have to side with this team of village idiots.

If your going to take and abuse our language write AMARIKAN before your posts for clarification as to what pigeon speech your trying to force out. Joking aside i reckon theres hope for England this year, Americans dont even know the name of the sport, how can we lose?

As an American who follows international football. I'd want to root for the US. But, as our send-off series of friendly games showed, we don't have the talent to take down the likes of England. Our defense is horrible, even our EPL goalkeepers struggle on the international stage. Rooney will have little trouble ripping our defense apart imo.
