I'd go with Freelancer.
I'd sacrifice the local transients, criminals, junkies... etc (in hopes no one would notice) and see what that gets me. If I'm not impressed, I'll target a wider range of victims... or just more of the same and try again.

Easy. Hunt down the one person who already pulled off a successful human transmutation, get him to tell me how he did it, set up a way to pull myself back, and transmute my own Gate.
Or alternately find a way to trap myself there and offer to switch bodies with Truth.

Freelance. I wouldn't do it, because I'm not willing to sacrifice myself or anyone I care for just to please myself. Though, if I had to, I'd end up losing my brains and become a drooling zombie taken care of by my Homunculus. My Homunculus would eventually get sick of me and devour me, then go on a rampage destroying things until killed by another Alchemist.
