Greetings everyone, I've been meaning to do this for a while now so I thought I'd set this up.
It's a little personal experiment.

This is not just for fans, but occasional viewers (me), silent viewers (non-posters), et cetera.

Experiment: I want to see if different series' on the Escapist appealed to, if any, age groups in particular.

All you have to do is choose one of the above poll options, that's it.

I want to stress that this isn't in any way an insult. Lord knows I don't want this thread to devolve into another superfluous flame war.

Please answer truthfully, I won't try to be naive and think I can get 100 responses, but I don't think it's too much to ask for 50.

I'll start I'm 21 *clicked option 5* easy.

What do I hope to accomplish?: I have a theory that over time some critics will start presenting their reviews in a way to appeal to a certain age group based on the responses they get. Based on what I've read from the comments sections of Moviebob's reviews over the last few weeks I've come to hypothesize that the majority age group is caught between 11-19 years old.

STOP! No, I'm not insulting anyone and I can assume without a doubt in my mind that many people below and above my assumed age group watch the show too. I don't want any trouble, please no flame wars, it's ridiculous

I'm only basing this poll-experiment on what I've read in the comments sections and seen in his reviews. If you have any other recommended experiments for me to try please feel free to comment below (inner thought: Or they can post the experiment themselves, genius *smacks self upside the head).

Keep smilin' (Don't worry I plan on doing Zero Punctuation next)

I'm turning 21 this June thank you for asking.

Speaking of Bob and my age I always find it hard when he talks about media in the 80s. Not that I'm hating him for it, but I wasn't really taught about that time until recently.(its a family thing)

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by critics appealing to the 11-19 age group?

I mean no disrespect or any means by insulting you, I've noticed it somewhat but not enough for me to call them out on it.

21 here, turning 22 in June. From my experience on this site the people here, at least those that actively participate in the community, are usually in there twenties.

Don't worry, no insult taken. My hypothesis was based on the comments section of the past reviews. Usually I would see comments of escapists mentioning issues with High School or "I was too young for that" (since Moviebob litters his videos with 80s references, I figured that many weren't alive at the time said 80s references were around).

One example was from his Toy Story 3 review when he explained that after seeing the movie to paraphrase: "You'll now know why your older siblings fast forward through parts in The Neverending Story and Brave Little Toaster." The statement implied he knew that the majority of his viewers might not remember two emotional kids movies from the 80s.

So far, however, it looks like my theory is being proven wrong. Go figure. Peace.

22 for couple more months.

OP must know that you're getting the answers for people that visit this thread. Not only the ones who watch Escape To The Movies. That's something you can't stop. You'll get the same results, although probably more answers, that may change it, if you're making the same poll regarding Zero Punctuation. Just because it'll catch even more attention with the ZP in it. The topic is now rather just "How Old Are You?".

The age groups are good for getting a rather estimate, based on the already existing estimate of the ages of people who spend time here. Those age compartments are so small that you can't get a target audience age from there. You can't do something like reviews for 14-16 year-olds and then something different to 17-19 year-olds. I guess one could divide the teenagers with the twenty-somethings and then the older folk. But even that isn't the point. Actually, the target audience is supposed to be the people on this site, and additionally the people interested in the things of this site, i.e. people who're interested in the site, if not yet actively here.

I'd also like to say that if you're deducing the age of the viewers based on the comments, you can't get an answer. I'd say that younger people might be more quicker in responding with a brief post of their thought. I, and I'm sure to not be alone with this, almost never comment on videos or text reviews, because there's rarely decent conversations, but rather either quick statements of the level of agreement or picking up on some part they felt somehow compelling. I don't know how to put it most efficiently, but comments don't equal the average viewer. If you look at YouTube comments... well, I won't go into that, and of course it's another story, but partly related to this.

I've watched couple of those videos, but wouldn't consider myself as a regular or a fun. Actually can't even remember what they're like, but that's not the point. I only want any reviews to be as high quality and as much effort put into them as possible. Not focusing on a certain age group. Even the fact that it's a review on a gaming site gives enough to go on with. I see this as rather pointless for the purpose it's intended, but I'm not judging because I always like to see statistics about these kind of things.

I understand what your saying. I was thinking about making the chart options a little broader, but I didn't wanna broaden them out too much. I've noticed that Moviebob appeals to younger viewers as he usually has late 80s early 90s references in his videos.

As I have stated from another post I based the age options on what I've seen from the comments sections, which are filled with a majority of teenage viewers. Thank you for the constructive criticism, I do appreciate it and see that I probably could have done the poll better. Thanks for the comment.
