Poll: Escapism Elitism?

I thought about this a while back, but I didn't figure it to be such a big thing. However, recently, it's come more and more into everday Escapism, if you'll ignore the pun.

What I'm talking about, as you may have gathered, is elitism among alot of Escapist users. Wether it's screaming at someone who posts something generally disliked, calling them a troll and such, or users who seem to think having a title "Gone Gonzo" means your allowed to flame newer users.

Of course, I'm probally just going over the top. Still, I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks about this. Do you think there is alot of elitism on the Escapist? Or do you think it's just the way the Escapist community is? Or do you think there isn't such a thing?

From some of the newer users who have a big post count, yeah. The more experienced guys have a lot more restraint in these matters. However, the self proclaimed 'PC elitists' have been around lately, flaming anyone who says they own a console, claiming they aren't 'hardcore' gamers.

I think some people do look at the 'Gone Gonzos' as the elite here, though. I received 2 friends a couple of days after going Gone Gonzo, and I personally have no idea who they are.

Just badge-hunting, probably.

I do think we jump the gun on calling people trolls sometimes.
Often, it seems to me that the accused was just a confused, new, or unthoughtful poster, rather than a troll.

There is an extreme ammount of elitism on this site. I've never seen so many grammar/spelling nazis, religious intolerants or general twats in one place. Say what you like about /b/, they don't care what you post, and they have a lot more fun there...

Sadly, there are a few people here that I do genuinely like (or at least respect), and that's keeping me here for now.

Actually, all users in general seem to sometimes think that they are elite because they think this is the best forums, and so they sometimes act as self-righteous jerks... sometimes.

Frankly, I don't think it's a problem, but it's there.

I think elitism is ingrained into the entire gaming culture. It's much easier to compete with someone than it is to try and stand on even ground with them, be their friends and all that. At least, that's the case for some people.
