I'm not going to lie pretty much the only thing I've ever heard about him is that he was Rihana's boyfriend and he beat her, so I answered not, though in my defence I don't like anything so I probably wouldn't like whatever it is he does.

Right, so the general consensus is that no one is a fan. Why the hell was he performing -_-

Well, can't say I know anything his art, but I 'm pretty sure attacking Rihanna would put me off even if he was a fan, same way I can't respect Polanski supporters even if I liked them previously.

But, WTF? This is a particularly fucked up part of our culture.

My opinion was never high of him. I didn't like his music and the whole hip hop whatever sense made him look like a douchebag. Now I completely have zero respect for him after that beating thing.

The WTF trigger mechanism are the tweeters I referenced in the OP "I'd let CB beat me up" etc, etc.

Ok, so this guy [br]

From the hordes of people on twitter claiming that they'd let him beat them up, to his performance at the Grammys (allegedly a lip-sync), to his winning of an award, I just don't get the fandom around him.

I mean seriously. What the hell, internet. http://jezebel.com/5884620/violent-lothario-chris-brown-spawns-worst-twitter-trend-ever

The whole event was perfectly summed up by one twitter user "@KateHarding"

"The problem is an industry that passes over similarly talented artists who didn't punch Rihanna in the face..."

Escapist, help me out here, why is this man liked?
I imagine people like him because of his music and him punching Rihanna didn't make his music any worse. I don't know if he has been punished for his actions, but if you or any one else think there has been a miscarriage of justice, you should take it up with the justice system instead of expecting the music industry or music fans to play moral police.

As far as fanaticism goes, there are plenty of slayer fans who have carved the word "Slayer" into their flesh. So, Chris Brown isn't the only musician with extreme fans.

I like how they use a white person instead of a maori
OH SHIT RACISM ALERT, I should shut up :p

OT: Some people like his music, I don't, it is honestly crap in my opinion.
But people like different things
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't stay a fan of him after he beat Reihanna if I was a fan previously
But some people just don't care enough about that sort of action to stop listening to their musician.

Beats me. I dont like him but I dont like his songs. Plus it sets a bad image. you can beat a girl all you want if you can sing a song and everybody forgives you, meanwhile someone organizes a dog fight ring and pays for his crimes and works to fix them and amend his ways and hes not even given a chance.

...

why yes, I like michael vick as a football player, hes one of the better wild cat QBs in the league and should have been on the cover instead of some loser from the browns or the other black guy that compared his contract and the way the league handled the players as "slavery".

And yes I know Brown was sentenced to six months and a couple years probabtion, but you never hear about it any more and we're supposed to have this guy be a role model.

I've never even heard of the guy until now... so I guess I'm not a fan.

I don't listen to very much pop music.

I went with not a fan because I have absolutely no idea who this guy is. Also, who is Rihanna? I have heard the name a couple of times but have no idea who the person is.

You've [probab;y seen her if youve seen a US tv add featuring a somewhat skinny but "curvy" black woman, but this is her

Because catchy.

That's the full reason, sadly enough.

Despite the many, many paparazzi rags, rumors, "dirt" releases and leaked "private details" (read: sex tapes), many people still don't know what happens in many celebrities' personal lives... or they just don't care.

The real issue here is why do you know all of this shit? I've never heard of the man let alone that there was one group of people who liked him and one group of people who think they hate him, despite not really knowing who he is......

I want to help you, I really do, but you're too far gone.

Clearly, you don't do pop culture.

Chris Brown is this guy.

<youtube=3mC2ixOAivA>

He dated Rihanna for a good while before he beat her up after the Grammys a couple of years ago. He served some prison time and community service (unless he got parole, I don't remember). Rihanna went a bit crazy afterwards in her music, but remains a good megastar with a very distinctive voice.

<youtube=tg00YEETFzg>

If you managed to miss this song in the last three months, I don't know how. It's on grocery store stations, restaurant ambiance, radio, I've heard it in an elevator, etc... The video seems to be about her and her relationship with Chris Brown.

Wat?

Anyone who dabbles in pop music and culture knows the guy (he has a MAJOR hit on the radio right now!) and if you paid attention to pop culture two years ago, then you knew that he punched up Rihanna. I suppose that he's "too far gone" if you consider "knowing that there's a Weekly Top 40" to be "knowing too much".

It's not that he knows too much, it's that you know nothing at all.

You're right, I don't have a radio atm and my car is in the chops so I literally know nothing at all, and it seems I'm much happier for it.

After all this guy is the one who's been so upset/annoyed by his knowledge that he needs to create a thread in order to seek justification of people's opinions. I can carry on my merry way regardless of whether people like this Chris Brown and regardless of whether he mimed at the grammy's or not (but come on, I thought it was accepted that the grammy's were a load of wank anyway :p)
