Perhaps this is in the wrong forum but EvE online players just donated a record-breaking 185 thousand dollars worth of PLEX (in game item redeemable for game time, purchased for real money but can be sold inside of the game for the native currency) totaling 12,345 PLEX. I believe that broke a world record or two for gaming communities donating.
All this occurred during a 6 hour (probably longer) twitch feed featuring everything from Icelandic delicacies to crazy bets such as CCP Dollan taking a paintball for every $2000 donated. Needless to say, he took about 90. Also as a result of massive donations (far beyond what they thought possible) was CCP Mimic got a hair cut. From 6 years of hair growth to about 1.5 inches. The hair will be donated to making wigs for cancer patients. I missed a few events but i even think they had two bosses duking it out in a bouncy ring with giant gloves.
All in all, holy cow, that's a big donation from a gaming community.
