We sometimes meet them in the streets holding signs telling us the the world is going to end soon when the koala martians come up from below the ground and then mush us all into a fine delicious paste which they will use to feed their cubs - a sign that will probably be written in a very small font, but one that no person will actually believe in. Sometimes we have a bad feeling or know something others don't and try to warn them - at which point we appear to be as crazy as the person holding that large sign from earlier.

Have you ever entered into this situation when you warned a person or persons of impending doom and you found yourself to look like a crazy doomsayer? Were you right or wrong?
Share your hilarious experiences with us, and we could all laugh with each other.

When the whole mayan apocalypse thing was going on last year there were lots of people saying that the world wasn't going to end, or that it was impossible for it to happen. I corrected them, explaining that we live in a violent universe with an uncountable number of ways to wipe us out without so much as a whimper, and informing them that all you really can say is that the world was not any more likely to end on that day than any other.

The overwhelming reaction was to give a worried look to the sky then inform me about how bleak I was.

All the time. Nobody listens. I'm generally right. My father says I'm too young to be so cynical. Ah well...

I am currently a doomsayer for the HotS story. Legacy of the Void too, I guess. I am telling people that it's going to be filled with rediculous character development followed by a cheesy, terrible ending.

We shall see.

All the time, mostly when it comes to ranting about politics or me going on dates

Regarding the conventional AAA video game industry, I still am. We'll probably know whether I'm right or not in another five years or so.

We share the same prophecy. The Steam-pocalyse will be upon us and no-one will be safe! Only I, with my physical copy of games and those like me will survive this catastrophe!

If you mean literally saying the world was speeding towards apocalypse, then yes, a little. I didn't go out into the street with a sign, but there was a point a good few years ago when I felt certain the world was teetering on the edge of nuclear armageddon.

I still think it's a little absurd that our defence against such things is essentially "sure, we've got a gun pointed at our heads, but so does everyone else in the room, so nobody's ever going to fire!" but I guess I stopped talking/thinking about it so much because it was, well, depressing.

When I was even younger I was constantly terrified of the end of the world. In my childhood, I thought the world was going to end because of, off the top of my head, multiple viruses including the black plague, aliens invading, meteors, GM crops, supervolcanoes, the headless horseman simply killing off the entire world one by one, demons, the blob, and the iraq war.

If you mean in more everyday stuff, then yes, I'm infamous for saying everything will go wrong. It just seems to make more sense, if you get your hopes up you can be disappointed, if you think everything's going to go wrong, you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Still, I can't deny that sometimes it simply makes things worse, panicking and seeing no point in trying because everything will go wrong.

Oh they all listen, but they're just so desperately trying to cling onto hope that they won't acknowledge you until it's far to late.
That actually makes me feel better, for some reason. Thank you. :D

Does it have to be an end of the world situation? How about the end of a relationship?

Because when I broke up with my ex, we tried to stay friends, and she introduced me to her new boyfriend.(we worked together, he had dropped her off) After he left I simply turned to her and said: "You know he's cheating on you, right?" The guy hadn't said a word to me, and I don't know how I could tell, but something about him told me he was cheating.

She blew it off as an attempt to get her back, until about a week later. Turns out I was right, and she was confused as to why I wasn't glad she was throwing herself at me.

Still, the idea of the human race being virtually wiped out makes me feel not so good inside.

But enough about that. Climate change debates make me want to cry.

I was once, but some guy said it would doom the world to drowning by ferrets, so I stopped.
That sounds like a friggin adorable way to end the world. I mean, ferrets are so cute man! How could they do harm? D:

OT: Ummmm no not really, considering I'm bi-polar and full of angst, hate and tend to wallow in my own misery no, I'm generally pretty positive about the future. It's weird I know.

Not with anything truely important, but I typically predict things with astounding accuracy, when it comes to political, social, and criminal trends, where the game industry is going, and numerous other things. People tend to like to focus on the occasions where I'm wrong, and truthfully the fact that I don't stand up and buttdance screaming "I told you so" probably has something to do with it... as does the fact that I look far enough ahead where when things I predict happen typically people don't remember due to years having passed and things having changed pretty gradually.

It's odd but one example I'd give on these forums was that I called what was going to be going on with the industry, microtransactions, etc... years ago, and warned people about letting this kind of thing get entrenched. Interestingly we now see guys like Jim Sterling making entire videos sounding off about things (and getting tons of attention) I was warning everyone about years ago.

On a larger scale I'd point to how things turned out with The Middle East and China, with us being pretty much where I said we'd be in relation if we continued down the path we were going. Albiet a lot of people dismissed those predictions because changing them would have involved a complete re-evaluation of American morality and international tactics.
