There is Wikipedia, there is also Wikia for focused versions of "Wikipedia" (though I dont believe they are officially related) and plenty of other sites that mirrored Wikipedia. (My favorite is UESP, or Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages)

Informational sites that "anyone can edit". So far it has mostly worked out I think, but thats not the topic.

Ever get involved in editing any of these?

Was it just minor corrections, or did you create whole pages? Maybe even started a Wiki for your favorite show or game that others seemed to neglect?

I have done some minor editing and reversed a few vandalizations, but I am too intimidated to do any real contributing, but I do often want to, especially when information is wrong or lacking.

What about the rest of you?

My proudest edit is the Cormac McCarthy Wikipedia page. Just checked in and all my contributions hold.

I created the TV Tropes page for Never Bareheaded [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NeverBareheaded], and have contributed a lot to other pages there. Mostly formatting and spelling fixes..

Try it once when trying to input some data from this game but then I realise I don't know much coding.

I edited some stuff in the Bloodborne wikia a while ago. I don't remember what exactly tho. I think some item drops were missing from an enemy's page or something.

EDIT: Close. I edited a consumable item page (I added the enemy who usually drops it).

Don't, unless you want to get stuck in there for hours. You are warned.

I checked it out a bit after posting that.

Not my thing really.

When I was a kid I edited some Star Wars page on Wikipedia. Looking back, I was probably wrong.

I'm an admin on the StarCraft, Diablo, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch, and a former admin of the Destiny wiki. Also edited plenty of others.

So, um, yes, I have edited quite a bit.

Any advice on getting into editing? I want to contribute to stuff (particularly TES stuff) but I always worry about doing something wrong.

Well, bear in mind that different wikis have different rules, but I can give the following:

-"Be bold." It's a cliche that many wikis utter, but there is some benefit to the rationale. As in, don't be afraid to edit. Even if they aren't good edits, most wiki regulars can tell the difference between vandalism and well informed but erroneous edits.

-Respect the manual of style. What I mean by this is that most (good) wikis have a layout to articles that's generally repeated across articles. So, if you're editing, try to keep within it. Don't shift things around. For instance, if a character biography always comes first in a character page, don't shift it around for the sake of it.

-Wikis aren't a democracy. Again, there's some variation, but when you're starting off, you're small fry. Admins get the final say, and you'll have to abide by that. The best way to get respect is to keep editing, get confident, and build up your edit count. As an admin, I've watched certain users go through this process - when they start off editing, I've had to check their work. Nowadays, some of them are admins themselves, and I don't check their work because they've proven themselves to me. This doesn't always work (e.g. the Mass Effect wiki is downright draconian), but in general, most admins will come to respect new users if they put the hours in.

-Don't be afraid to query articles. What I mean is, while admins have the final say, they will correct stuff if you point it out, even if you don't want to edit it. Or, if you do edit and they get reverted, you should feel free to ask why. That can be a fine line to walk, but most of the time, admins will generally give reasons as to why your work is reverted. Not always good reasons, and I've pissed off some people over the years, but I've always made the effort to give concrete reasons.

So, basically, think of a wiki like a school. Put in the time, you get to the upper grade, by which point your confidence should be built up, as well as experience.

I used to make a few additions/corrections on the Borderlands 2 wiki. It was mostly adding different variants of legendary guns that the wiki didn't have yet.
Also made a few quick edits on the Undertale wiki a short while after the game was released.

I think there was one other game I did a fair bit of wiki editing on, but it escapes me.

I wrote like...50+ articles on 40k Lexicanum, but was eventually asked to stop for being too good and smart. There was this one time where there was Captain Amit, the Flesh Tearer, Captain of the Blood Angels Legion aboard his personal warship the Victus, and then there was another character, First Chapter Master Amit of the Flesh Tearers aboard his Chapter command ship the Victus.

And I apparently made the mistake of merging the two articles, believing them to be one and the same. Nope. Was given a rebuke and told to stop making stuff up.

Turns out I was right all along, but those fuckers can go fuck themselves.

Yeah. I edited the wikipedia page on the Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard. Some dribbling shitlord had written that there were no vehicles available for IG in the 1st edition Warhammer 40k compendium. I settled his hash. Also the 1d4chan page on Pedro Cantor.

Yep. On different occasions I've fixed vandalism[footnote]Fixing things ranging from someone redirecting the link from a bank's official site to a bash-board, to removing joke edits of "Badgers are totes Illuminati, guys!"[/footnote], corrected typos and formatting errors, created a small (and long since removed for lack of notability) page back when Wikipedia was smaller and less formal, and of course I've done my fair share of editing on TVTropes as well.

I haven't done so yet, although I'm actually going to need to sometime soon.

This thread reminds me that I need to make some small improvements to the TVtropes page someone made for a game that I made. XD There's some weird grammar on display, and some erroneous information they put up.
