So, it's that time again. Time for the biggest and most prestigious fighting game tournament of the year.

What game are you most looking forward to watching? Which competitors are you most interested in seeing? What storylines are you most excited to see play out?

For me, I'm actually probably most excited for Blaz Blue and KOF. I've been totally digging on BlazBlue lately and really enjoy the high level play. I really hope Pops can come through with his spectacular Pltinum play to triuph over the Kokonoe army. And KOF13 is just so damn hype every year. I don't even play the game but it's a can't miss at Evo.

I'm also really hoping to see Daigo do well. I know he's venerated to the point of silliness at this point, but I would just love to see him win one more Street Fighter title.

What do I not want to see? Kokonoe winning BBCP, Rufus or Viper anywhere near the top of USF4, and super BS gimmick teams like ApologyMan's winning Marvel.

Last year i was hyped for UMVC3 , but since my Xbox red ringed, and i couldn't play it anymore, coupled with the fact capcom lost the rights to make any more marvel characters ( so no patch) and a lot of the fights boil down to infinites and gimmicks , i'm not hyped for it this year. Spoiler, a team with Zero is going to win.

I'm most hyped for USF4. I want to see what the pros bring to the table with the rebalancing and added stuff. I want to see hype red focus combos, something more elaborate than combo +Red focus + ultra. I also want to see some crazy reaction red focus shananigans like :

Also please oh please let there be a chun li in top 8. She's my main and she got a lot of love in Ultra, she viable now. My runner up is Elena. Dat healing, can make for some interesting turn of events.

[HEADING=1]Looks like it's about to start![/HEADING]

I'm at work, but I'll be trying to watch the Injustice streams for most of the day if I can.

I'm very interested in seeing this years KoF13 show. Last year's KoF show was definitely the most hype. I might tune in for Killer Instinct and Tekken as well. I'm not too interested in the Capcom lineup or Smash, but I'll likely watch some of those as well.

My hype order would probably go:
1) USFIV - It's a new version and I'm very interested to see how this plays out. On the other hand Japan had the game well before everyone else and IMO that advantage is highly likely to play out in the form of top 8 dominance.

2) KoFXIII - This game has, top to bottom, had IMO the best top 8s out of any game since it was added to the lineup. The only downside is that interest and attendance in the game is waning.

3) Smash Bros. - Last years top 8 was very solid outside of the finals (kind of lopsided) and I'm expecting something similar this year. The only reason that I'm not more excited about this is that it's only one of two games on the list that I haven't tried to play competitively.

Indifferent Tier: BlazBlue: CP, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us

99) Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - This game should not have been in the lineup. It had shit attendance last year. Its attendance is even worse this year. It is only in the lineup because the developer paid off the tournament organizers. This game is my anti-hype.

100) Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - I've played this game. I no longer play it because it is so slapped together that 1+1 =/= 2 (basically). I cannot even begin to express how frustrating it is watching people play this because you feel like you're watching a system that rewards terrible decision making. It is also frustrating because with the exception of 2-3 players people seem largely unwilling to innovate or adapt to try and beat the top players. Characters like Hulk and Haggar should not be still placing in tournaments. The fact that Justin Wong is still placing or outright winning tournaments with a team he developed in the first month of "vanilla" Marvel vs. Capcom 3 speaks very badly for the entire community that surrounds this game.

It has to be USF4. I would be more hype for other games but they unfortunately just didn't get the stream time I hoped they would. I'm still really sad KoFXIII didn't even have any pools on any main evo stream. Any side streams I don't know about where they are being streamed?

The only one I am interested in would be BlazBlue. Seeing any Skullgirls via side-tourneys would be amazing as well. I am confused as to why it (SkullGirls) is not one of the main tournments, yet something as mediocre as Killer Instict is. Also, as I haven't played it since launch - Didn't Ultimate MvC 3 have tons of balancing issues?

Damn Gen just tearing up Tekken Tag 2. Nothing fancy, just pure f'in fundamentals. Beautiful.

Very few people actually play SkullGirls and KI really isn't that lacking in gameplay at all. It's still early and the balance is suspect, but there are some very interesting mind games going in in KI. Skullgirls is being played as part of the Mad Catz side tournament though at least.

UMVC3 is pretty much the definition of so broken it's kind of balanced. The game is more and more becoming a single player game where any team composed with any sort of care can convert a single hit into a kill combo into a near unblockable (or even unblockable) mix-up on the incoming character. The more the game develops, the less I like it.. but it can be entertaining to watch.

Damn, Gen couldn't pull it out in the end as JDCR found another gear but that was so good for the first final of the weekend. I know a lot of people don't get Tekken, but if you watched that and didn't get hype you don't have a heartbeat.

I suck at Tekken, but I think it's an absolute joy to watch. Even if Bob is all over the fucking place, the fights are awesome. Something happened with the Injustice stream so the quarter finals didn't get aired The pools were good though, I saw a pretty wide variety of characters used. But, DJT 88 is maining fucking Aquaman this time around... Unless he somehow got eliminated in Quarterfinals, I can see him winning. But, Foreverking's is there too, and his Batman is just insane.

I've been watching mostly TTT2 the whole day. It was pretty great.

Still excited to see KOF13 and the Injustice finale though.

Dayuuuuummmmm.... Daigo gets knocked out off stream in the top 256 by basically a no name Oni player?

That. Is. Crazy.

Edit: LOL I've been trolled. But Valle VS Daigo on stream now? This is gonna be beautiful.

Yeah, I saw that. Assholes lol.

It's not going too well for Valle, but that was fun to watch. It's always good to see Daigo.

Daigo out at the hands of Mr. Fundamentals John Choi.

Amazing matches between Xian and Snake Eyez, and Gamerbee and Fuudo. Shit, this is only Friday.

USF4 Top 8
Fuudo - Fei Long
Gackt - Fei Long
Bonchan - Sagat
Zangief - Snake Eyez
Ricky Ortiz - Rufus
Louffy - Rose
Momochi - Ken
Elena/E.Ryu/Ibuki/Gen - Sako

Not a bad variety of characters in Top 8. Sad to see most of my favourites not in there but Fuudo is the only prior Evo champion so it looks like we may be getting a new champ this year. I've gotta be cheering for Snake Eyez and Louffy at this point though it would also be nice to see Bonchan pull it our with Sagat.

I'd prefer MK to be in it, but well, I guess Injustice will suffice.

Nintendo has no place there.

aww, I actually originally thought there was going to be a remake of E.V.O (Super Nintendo game...an awesome one mind you) in 2014 when I read the title haha.

Ah well, never the less, alone out of reason that Smash Bro's has been one of those games friends and I have been able to play hours and hours on end without ever getting bored, Im going to have to give that one my vote, alone out of the 'fun' Ive had with it.

I'm only watching KoF XIII. There really isn't a better tourney fighter.

I really want to see Juice get out of his group and make a deep run! He's an excellent streamer, educator and commentator, and it'd be cool to see him get some recognition at the event.

Edit: I say "watching", but what I mean is "catching up with EVO vods after Dota2's TI4 is over".

Though it IMO probably shouldn't have been an offstream match (i.e. a match in which the most well known SFIV player has a chance to be eliminated) here's the recording of said match between Daigo Umehara and John Choi:

Yeah, I can't say that the streamed matches were bad ones but it seems very odd that they chose to have some fan favourites like Mike Ross or big matches like Daigo VS Choi not on stream. I'm not really sure I needed or wanted to see every permutation of high level Fei Long get streamed instead.

This issue would be solved by having more streams, and having those streams be organized in some way, perhaps have certain segments of the bracket covered by each stream. The bracket website should be searchable by player so that fans can view the whole tournament fight history for their favorite players.

Having one stream works for minor tournaments with few top players who are easy to cover on stream, but Evo has way too many great players to cover on a single stream.

BlazBlue and KOF13 coming up soon, and both at the same time. Injustice Top 8 has been surprisingly entertaining.
