I live in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It's hot and muggy when the sun's out or it rains so much it floods. The beaches are brown, the ocean is full of jellyfish, the islands are full of tourists, the city is full of rednecks. Ick.

I feel for you, even though I live in Brisbane. Beaches are pretty good down here, but I will not swim in them so long as A. There are Blue Bottles Jellyfish (had one wrapped around my stomach once. That's what you get when you swim in at a beach that's been taken over by the damn things) and B. Sharks picking off surfers left, right and centre.
