I propose complete collectivization of the gaming industry, with instead of several corporations competing we have a unified game development body, creating more games and fewer consoles that everybody can have access to...for free, of course, because this would only work under socialism or within a communist society.

The main principle behind this is that cooperation works better than competition.
Then you can pay fifty thousand dollars for your one console and eight hundred for each game (This is hyperbole). Competition is what keeps prices in check, if they were to "unify" they could basically charge whatever they want and if gamers wanted to game they would only have two choices, pay for it or don't game at all.
Thank you for stating the obvious and elaborating on why my idea would only work with communism. The current economic system cannot sustain collectivization to such a level.

Well I never played a Wii Mario game so... yeah.

And FUCK! I can't believe I forgot Brawl!

That, and the fact that the Wii has the best backwards compatibility of any game console these days. In the fact that it actually has backwards compatibility.

Sony killed the PS3's backwards compatibility and Microsoft just half-assed it and gave up since 2007...
And the Wii has Virtual Console which lets it play games all the way back from NES giving it a backwards compatibility no other console could hope to compete with.

I'm just amazed you haven't played a Mario game on the Wii. That's so strange I can't even make a proper simile.
Well to be honest I've never been a big fan of Mario :p
I've played a lot of the games, its just... after Sunshine I just, well... kind of gave up on them.

Well, except for Mario Kart, of course.
wait wait wait..so are you saying, you DIDN'T like mario sunshine?!?!

So anyway I was on you tube looking at ace combat 6 and I thought it was awesome. The only reason I don't go out and by it is because it is an xbox exclusive. DAMMIT NOT AGAIN! What is the point of exclusive releases/ all they do is continue the pointless argument over who got the better consule. At the end of the day, weather you play PS3 or 360 or PC, aren't we all gamers? Aren't we in it for the same thing? Why keep some games inaccessible to the rest because they didn't buy the 'right' console? So, should we ban exclusive releases?
You have no idea how business works do you?
Competition = diversity
Competition = competitive prices
Competition = Good for the consumer
Took the words directly out of my mouth. Good show.

No, obviously. Some games work the best one one system. See, when developers make an exclusive, they can tweak it to fit the technology and make it work for one console. When they develop for more than one, they can't focus on just one and have to worry about making it work for both if you get what I'm saying. Plus, exclusives help sell consoles. Why would anyone own more than one if it weren't for preferences and exclusives?

More like stop making bad PC ports of 360 games, because we don't want them. If they can be bothered to put a little effort into making it work right, that's one thing, but I've seen some really janky ports lately that make me want to kick the dev team in the junk.
I especially appreciate it when a shoddy PC port of a 360 game is released 18 months after the 360 version and sells poorly so the publishers start screaming that piracy is to blame and the PC is a terrible platform and PC gamers are all filthy criminal scum who should be shot in the face. (some hyperbole involved)

No, exclusives are often the only games that push boundaries on their respective platforms.

Why do you think most PC games are still using DirectX 9?
Because the jump from DirectX9 to DirectX10 is hardly noticeable?
Well apparently Dx10 never existed so we'll just forget about that - but considering Dx 11 is now knocking about it'd be nice to see a few more people bother to use it. Dx needs to be scrapped and restarted, but that's not really the point.

Hell no. Exclusives are what give consoles diversity.
I think exclusives should stay.

I also noticed you said nothing about the Wii and its exclusives...
I don't count the wii as a console. Since this is a post about gaming consoles rather than a hyper advanced baby's rattle it has no place in this post.
The Wii is a console, like it or not.
It's also the only console not afraid to admit it's a toy. All consoles are toys I don't see why you should treat them any other way.

[sub]Honestly I can't see why people hate the Wii so much[/sub]
Cuz its kinda weird and you cant rly enjoy it....n the games all suck :D

Yeah, it's always funny when they get all worked up about the evil pirates when the game isn't even good enough to be worth playing for free, much less paying $50 for it. Face it, guys: the reason no one played your game is that it sucks, and everyone stopped caring about it already a year ago. When not even the pirates want it, you know you screwed up somewhere.
