I would want to survive to exact my revenge upon those who have harmed me. Whatever they take from me, I shall take from them 10,000X. Of course it is hard to take the high ground in a hypothetical situation (is revenge a high ground?) It's truly hard to say if I would puss out and take a quick death. But yeah, the bastard would pay...... hopefully. :p

Torture will make you numb after an hour or two, because at the sight of your own blood or damaged your body pumps up on adrenaline. This just makes you angry like a bull, you feel no pain because you are focusing too much on escape and returning the favour against your torturer. The only other alternative would be a half hour torture followed by a few hours rest. Either way the torture does eventualy end and to be honest I would much rather feel pain for a year than absolutely nothing at all. No thought no dreams just nothing. The idea chills me to the core.

Torture

Mainly because i'll probably go into shock at some point and it'll be the equivelant of cutting meat. Besides, by surviving, this gives me the opportunity to enact an unstoppable vendetta, sacrificing anything and everything to hunt down my tormentors.

However on the other hand, death does have its privillages, as this penny arcade comic brings into mind.

Torture. Why? The same reason I live today, the very thing that keeps me going. No goal in my life, not really my family, friends or anything like that keep me going. The reason why I would pick torture is simply so I can keep on telling the grim reaper to suck it.

Also, when pain becomes normal, what effect does it have? This is why I think that the concept of hell is flawed.

I would do death, but then make an unholy alliance with satin, being alive, yet dead inside, cursed to roam the world doing satin's unholy bidding....
Yes, there's nothing as evil as that damned cloth satin.
You know my father was actually killed by satin.

Pain Because I would enjoy it
Because I can find the person who hurt me and hurt them twice as much as they hurt me

It very much depends on the type of torture. If it includes cutting off both of my hands for example, I'd rather die. My hands are very valuable to me. So much that I'm not willing to go through intense rehabilitation to still live my life, for I will have to give up way too much. I'd rather be dead then.

Well since you said in the first post that the torture would be permanent, as in losing limbs, or sight, or hearing, or any other completely debilitating sense I would choose death. Temporary torture with that didn't leave anything but the memories and a few scars I would take the torture. But if you're going to torture to the point where I lose an arm or a leg, might as well save the trouble and just give me a bullet to the temple.

Well... death. In a failed attempt at escape. I really don't want to just give up like that, and if I'm killed while fighting, I'll have kept some of my honor. That feels better than just lying on a table with thumbs up my arse.
Bam, I'm with you, bugger laying down and being tortured/killed, I'll stand, fight and try to avoid both.

Well, sometimes I wonder.

First, as a Christian, I'd probably want to remain alive until God told me it's time to go. If there was any chance of survival, I'd go with torture, for the simple reason that God can erase pain. I'd ask Him to give me the strength. After all, there's not much you can do when you're dead, whereas, if you're alive, there still remain possibilities.

I like to think that I'd struggle until the end, but since I've never been in such a situation, I have no basis for comparison. Ask me later. :D
Just don't ask him for insulin.

Seems as if most of the possible viewpoints have been covered. If it's something completely debilitating, like the loss of both arms, I'd probably choose death. The loss of one arm or leg would be a toss-up. The loss of my sight or hearing I could deal with, but not both. Things like permanent damage to genitalia, or anything that renders me hideous to behold, while they wouldn't automatically make me choose death, would make me lean heavily towards it. If I could get away with no permanent loss of functions and nothing that renders me too hideous, however, I'd probably take whatever the torturer had to throw at me.

Torture.
I may lose both arms, but afterwards I can just get augmentics grafted on and get revenge on the psycho who tortured me...
