Poll: Extra Life - 24 Hours of...

Extra Life is an annual 24-hour video game marathon that raises money to help heal sick kids at your local children's hospital. This year's event begins at 8:00am in your local time zone on October 16th, 2010. Each of our participants is currently raising money by recruiting at least 4 sponsors to give $1.00 for each hour of the marathon (that's $24.00 per sponsor).

Escapist Extra Life group anyone? (I'm hoping there's not a topic or group on this that I'm missing)

I was considering participating in this, and then got to thinking about what I'd like to play. In the spirit of things like DesertBus, I prefer the idea of playing a single game for the full 24 hours. Thinking about a game that'd be interesting not only to play but for people to watch I came to...Minecraft!

But I got to thinking about taking it one step further...how about multiplayer! And thus I come to you my fellow Escapists. Anyone up for a 6-12 person 24-hour streaming Minecraft game? I think it'd be a lot of fun and gimmicky enough to get us a handful of sponsors! It'd be a great experiment to see what a small group of people can accomplish in that game in one day, and a chat room of watchers would guarantee no running low on ideas of things to build.

Or maybe some people would like to set up some teams for some other games? Just thinking out loud here, looking to foster some ideas for the event.

I'd love to join in the multiplayer 24-hour Minecraft, but after 3 seconds of SMP on that game my computer gets a driver-related BSOD!

Well, no, of course it isn't. I'll probably just play singleplayer all day, or finally get into Mass Effect or Oblivion. I don't think my computer will explode if I play those.

Some friends and I were thinking of pulling a 24 hour Civ 5 or Civ 4 game for this. Not sure if we'll be able to actually do it though. I'd like to help you, but I don't have Minecraft

Hmm, well, I can't play minecraft. but tell you what, I need to finish getting 100% in Demon's Souls anyway, so that can be my contribution. I know some people who will definitely sponsor me.

I do want to make a point that by no means does it have to be Minecraft, I was just thinking about personally setting up a team for that. I feel like I could get some buzz around the idea since Minecraft is so hot right now.

It'd be cool if we could do something as a group under the banner of "Escapist". Either as one big group, or various teams and individuals that make up the group...

Lot of people seem interested but unsure. I think a few more people who are definitely interested and then I'll look into seeing if maybe we can do something big as an Escapist crew.
