With all the talk about fable 3 it got me thinking once again about how much i hated fable 2,it also reminded me of how i couldent understand why people loved it so much, i had just put it in my mind as the only people who could possibly love fable 2 are people who never played the first one after deciding this i never gave it another thought, but i think its time i put this to bed.

So i ask, Those of you who played the first fable too, whats ur opinion?

(Just to clarify, im not saying that just because i decided thats the reason people liked it that its true,i just mean thats what i thought to myself to settle the matter with myself)

I sadly never played Fable II, not worth buying a new console for only 1 game i guess. But i greatly enjoyed Fable I, it was definitely my favourite game on the xbox at the time. lol my avatar is based on that game.

Both are "good" (objectively mediocre but you can have fun with it). Both are incredibly easy and very straightforward and linear. You can have fun with those if for a single weekend but you need to have the "right" expectations.

fable 2 is fable 1 with some extra bits attached.

i remember seeing a video diary of the development, and i am not kidding, one of the designers kept cutting out of work to get his costume ready for a party. that pretty much sums it up, the designers were to busy faffing about to make a good game

Despite it missing quite a bit of substance for a so called role-playing game, and it's cartoon character in a normal world style of presentation, Fable 2. The main story was piss-poor but there was quite a bit to do in all fairness.

I just wish they'd step away from the jocular, not-so-serious, cartoon like tone and feel that is has and actually make the choices you have in the game mean something more to you.

I think Fable was my first RPG, so I guess I kinda liked it.

I mean it was a fun game, and I had no idea about what Molyneux was saying about it at the time.

i enjoyed fable 1 a lot more than i enjoyed Fable 2

To me fable 2 was too... forced... In fable 1 the story was really heavy and sad just due to how good it was, in fable 2 there was not much that pulled me into it and it all felt very forced.

They had to force you to get attached to the characters just so they could try to make you sad later and it just didn't work for me.

Fable 2 only had a few more features than Fable 1 and overall had less story development and less character development. The speed of the game in terms of story felt a lot like Fable 1 on speed.

I am not saying Fable 2 sucked, no, by all means it was a good game. I am just saying it was not nearly as great as Fable 1

I played both and don't understand those who are going on about how much better Fable was than its sequel. I had fun with both, but both had a pretty short shelf life. They're essentially the same game with the same forgivable flaws. 2 was just a graphics upgrade, so it got my vote.

I'm a plain person, so I thought fable 2 was a bit better than fable 1. Story wasn't equally good. But I think that fable 2 had better fighting mechanics and customizations. Also, it wasn't a pain to go treasure hunting either.

If you like story, get fable 1.
If you want the nice fighting mechanic part, get fable 2.

I never played the first, so my opinion probably means squat to you, but I enjoyed Fable II at the time. Looking back, I was very disappointed in it - it had so much potential that it never lived up to. It was far too linear, and while there were tons of other non-story based things I could do, there was no real incentive to make me give a shit about them.

It was an OK game, never truly bad but never very good either, that could have been a lot better if the developers had made the effort.

I liked both.

For some reason, when Fable 2 came out, all the hate for Fable 1 turned into praise.
Wierd.

And besides, there is an easy way to enjoy the Fable series:
DON'T LISTEN TO PETER MOLENEUX!

yeah i can't quite put my finger on it but i had lots more fun in fable 1...i played that one to death for a few years, while fable 2 i played 4-5 times then was done with it, even with the dlc stuff, which i didn't care too much for as it is

the story of the first plus some of the fun stuff (bandit coast and arena) just weren't really in the 2nd one to me

I agree. I bought the first one on an impulse. I enjoyed it and when i looked it up and saw Peter Moleneux talking about it, i thought: What the hell is that guy yapping about? The game is nothing like that!

I liked both games, but Fable 1 was a better game overall.

Fable 2's plot was comparable to swiss cheese, (in that it was cheesy and full of holes), and the fighting system, although good, was let down due to easy ai.
And the minigames were annoying as well. An imaginative idea, but the grind for cash was way too slow early on in the game to even bother with it.

Plus Fable 2 had Theresa grow up into being such a *****! GODDAMN YOU THERESA! One day, I will skin your treacherous hide!
