Poll: Facebook Birthday Wishes

So it's my birthday today (woopdie doo hoorah, shut up), and I realized how many people will send you messages that you haven't spoken to in years. I mean to an extent where these are people I didn't even talk to in high school but they still sent messages.

Maybe it's just because I'm an unfeeling jerk on most occasions, but I tend to only send birthday messages to people I actually communicate. So tell me Escapist community, who do you send birthday wishes to on their special day?

I don't send birthday wishes to people on Facebook, and they don't send any to me. (With rare exceptions.)

To be fair, they started it.

Plus, I check Facebook for about 5 seconds each day, and that's just to see if I, by chance, have a message. I don't care about it, and it's only there for a few people to get a hold of me if they need to.

I'll phone them/send emails/send messages on other sites to people if I want to wish them a happy birthday, but that's mostly because I (and usually they as well) prefer that method over Facebook.

OT: I send birthday messages to everyone I communicate with plus a few people that I have communicated with before. Anyone who I don't really know/like anymore I proceed to not give them a birthday message .... then proceed to wonder why they are on my friends list and consider initiating a purge .....

If I actually talk to them, even if its only every now and again I'll send them one. Otherwise, why bother?

and sometimes i just don't even notice cuz it's such a small button on the side that shows who's birthday it is.

when i do notice though, i usually send it to people who were nice to me and/or close friends and family.

usually i send around oh...140 birthday congrats each year? (including via text/phone/IRL)

I don't have Facebook so I don't get messages from everyone, just those who actually know my birthday and care about me enough to call/text/email/write to me. Those are the people who I send birthday messages, unless I go the extra mile and see them in person.

Just to prove a point about how little attention people pay to Facebook birthday messages, after his birthday and receiving a ton of messages from people he didn't talk to my friend changed his birth date on his account to the next week. Even though they had already sent a message, many people blindly wished him another happy birthday.
