You appear to have a short attention span. Not a bad thing really just means you dont get pulled in by RPGs too easily. Do you by any chance have ADHD or something similar? Prefer FPS to RPG?

I had some false starts playing Fallout 3 as well. Though I never came to really love the game, I have enjoyed it for some time and finished it twice. Getting to know what the game is all about and how the mechanics work is a good step in the right direction. Making the right leveling choices can really pay out for a more fun and playable game.
Same here, but I did start to really like it. Once you get past the glaring shortcomings, it's not too bad. And hey, VATS never gets old.

I played it when It came out and I did not find it fun at all. It stayed on my shelf for 4 months before I tried it again and it is now my second favourite game of all time!

another option is just saying bugger it and going exploring. The first time i played it i just followed the points of interest markers around the map for a while. That way you can build up supplies like stimpacks and ammo and find all those interesting things that are scattered around the world.

I spent about the first ten hours wandering with no ammo and no money. And I LOVED IT. Try starting again, but accept the quests they give you. They're generally useful starting points...

I recently got fallout 3 for the 360. At first everything was fine up until you get to the first town. I had no idea what to do/where to go and whenever I went to where the marker was it lead me to a dead-end subway station. I gave up and walked back to buy some more ammo. I was testing to see if I had any amo in any of my guns and I shot the store lady thus making everyone pissed at me. I fended them off for a good while then left the place i was using as my fort. I explored around a bit and now this is where I stand:

I have no money, no ammo, no indication of where to go, bored with repetitive environments, everyones dead and the people who arnt dead hate me.

I am frankly dissapointed because I was looking for a really solid, entertaining RPG that wasnt as text loving as ME1(or 2) or DA:O. What should I do to spice this up and make it the jaw dropping deliciousness I always hear about?
Restart.

Protip: Save your game before you do something that will get a reaction (i.e. killing an NPC), because the results may not be favorable. And save every 5 - 10 min., Just In Case.
Also, have at least three save points BEFORE YOU EXIT THE VAULT, because should you feel the need to restart, you can load one of those saves and completely remake your character when exiting the vault (and not have to go through childhood).

Fallout is a kind of tinker-around, trial-and-error game. I had to restart a couple of times because I got myself in your exact situation or couldn't get a quest to go in the direction I wanted.

ur dooin it wrong.

Naaah, just kidding, you'd be amazed how many people i've met who have trouble starting out in F3, a friend of mine actually wanted to thank the raider's after they 'saved' him, and was confused when they attacked him.

Anyway to me it seems like your playing Fallout like an FPS, and not an RPG (Although, this is just speculation, feel free to prove men wrong), the best suggestion i can give you without spoiling too much is to talk to everybody, esspecially the folks like Mr.Burke and Lucas Simms.

Also, if your really stuck, simply look up a good walkthrough on the vault.

Get the game on PC. Mods make everything better.

Other than that I had about 6 false starts before I could get into the game. Next thing I know there goes 120 hours of my life.

You are doing something wrong. Scavenge a little more and do some quests. Honestly, I almost gave up in the beginning because of this. I would recommend doing the quest where you have to deliver a message to this girl's family. It will get you lots of money, it's pretty easy, and it's how I found my hunting rifle and then the game actually started. It takes a while to get into, but once you get the weapons it's a whole lot of fun.

I don't get the "Don't shoot the people who sell you stuff" I started my most recent Fallout save by disarming the bomb to get the house and then murdering everyone in Megaton (Actually I did Colins stuff first) by the time I was done I had tonnes of cash, stimpacks and ammo. Evil is the easiest way to play.

If you don't like text-heavy games, AND you don't like open world environments, you shouldn't be looking for an RPG in the first place

Ah, I remember my first Fallout 3 playthrough.

Wandering around with little to no ammo or Stimpaks, desperately trying to find any form of weapon or help, getting completely lost in the subways and DC ruins...

It was the best time I've ever had gaming.

You should start by not shooting everyone, especially the people that sell you shit.
This is very important. This is because people will often be part of quest lines.

Aside from that, Fallout 3 isn't fun. It's atmospheric and beautiful in its own way. But high octane fun? No, not at all.
It's very hard to have fun in Fallout 3 in the beginning, when your struggle is finished you'll have lots of fun, other than that the post above is true. And it's not all dead-end subways, you took a wrong turn somewhere.

You did nothing wrong...you did something considered bad in real life and now you have to suffer the consequences...
That is that you have no ammo, and no money, and everyone hates you.
Go drag your useless outlaw asshole character around until you find a guy with a quest, get a melee weapons somewhere and do it.

It´s roleplaying, if you don´t like that everyone hates you, then maybe you shouldn´t have acted as a dick in the first place<.<
I was going to inform you that if you go into every town spraying bullets around and killing the townspeople, then it's no suprise that you have no ammo or friends on the game, but i see this guy has already done that for me.

I say just start again, be nice to people so some good opportunities arise so you have some money and some good weapons, THEN kill everyone if you still feel like it. ^_^

Kudos to the traditional 'Xbox' approach to dealing with a situation though; murder everyone. Anyone else heard of Eliminative Materialism? ;) x

It's not a game tailored to your tastes, just like it wasn't tailored to mine. Doesn't make it a bad game.

I say carry on through with the rest of the game, and kill every single adult human being, mutant, and ghoul in the game.

(Hey, killing the whole world was really really fun in Arcanum.)

I had the same problem in Oblivion; the tutorial sets the scene and holds your hand then promptly chucks you out of the door and tells you to get bent; the openness of the game world can be a little intimidating but once you start chatting to the NPC's and find some quests it sorts itself out.

Ammo wise, you shouldn't ever really struggle for ammo, you can find it just about everywhere; just find some raiders, they don't put up much of a fight (unless one of them happens to be carrying the Firelance...).
