killing everybody is fun but sometimes its not the best idea.

fallout 3 requires a certain ammount of patience to enjoy. if you have some, give it another try. if you dont, then dont play it.

one piece of advice i can share that definitely helped me.

make about 3 different save files for the same character and save semi-often.

that way you can rotate your saves, and if you fuck up you can always load up a previous save you didn't overwrite.

that is the single most useful thing you can do in fallout and oblivion alike.

Yes, wrong. Do you test your sword on the blacksmith in DO:A to see if it's sharp? No. So you don't fire your gun at the storekeeper. Besides, it has an ammo indicator in the game, check that instead of wasting it.

Advice: Restart, pick small guns, lockpick, and repair as main skills. Don't dive into main quest, it's optinal for now. Go out into wasteland, do what you want, go where you want. This isn't nearly as restrictive as ME or DO:A so just go out and explore and don't go on the set path for the plot just because you feel you have to. You miss 90% of the game then.

If you want to be non linear in fallout and start out killing the main side quest giver who kinda shows you the ropes, you're pretty much screwing yourself.

You know you can leave and come back and they usually forgive you. Also you have a map so if the marker does not make sense look at your map, there is a local and world map so thats pretty useful, heres a tipthough, dont murder an entire town untill your atleast level 10, my friend wanted to kill all the doctors and well, hes screwed.

You're not obligated to like it just because its a popular game... If you're not enjoying it then its probably just not got that 'certain something' you look for in a game. Just trade it in and move on :)

Either restart and avoid hurting the friendlys, or go play something you will enjoy. If your not having fun playing a game, then stop playing it. Just because lots of people like something doesn't mean you have to like it.

I recently got fallout 3 for the 360. At first everything was fine up until you get to the first town. I had no idea what to do/where to go and whenever I went to where the marker was it lead me to a dead-end subway station. I gave up and walked back to buy some more ammo. I was testing to see if I had any amo in any of my guns and I shot the store lady thus making everyone pissed at me. I fended them off for a good while then left the place i was using as my fort. I explored around a bit and now this is where I stand:

I have no money, no ammo, no indication of where to go, bored with repetitive environments, everyones dead and the people who arnt dead hate me.
It's not an entirely uncommon opinion, it's just an opinion that gets drowned out by all the fans who hail it as one of the greatest games in existence.

I personally think it's one of the most depressing and unimaginative games i've ever played.
You're thrown into a dull brown wasteland with no clear direction or objective, you trundle along without any money or equipment. Even if you can get hold of ammo you still get killed because your guns do bugger all.

Some people on the other hand like the sort of depressing "wasteland ranger" atmosphere though. I think it's in desperate need of some colour and a difficulty curve, other people disagree, it's as simple as that :p

It's a love or hate kind of thing.

I am frankly dissapointed because I was looking for a really solid, entertaining RPG that wasnt as text loving as ME1(or 2) or DA:O. What should I do to spice this up and make it the jaw dropping deliciousness I always hear about?
I had the same problem, dude. It's VERY slow and annoying for the first 5-10 levels of your character simply because it's illogical before level 9-12ish. If you have a shotgun pointed right at a dudes head from two inches away, the head should explode. The problem is you have to level the guns up for them to work logically. After you do that, it's amazingly fun.

Why thank you, and yes, it's me.

I've played the hell out of this game, must have put nearly 200 hours into it now. I even figured how to make a perfect character, and know the location of almost every bobblehead by memory... Wait, this isn't really something to brag about is it?

well, are you fighting with V.A.T.S? actually doing some role-playing in the game? went exploring the Capital Wasteland? scavaged for anything you can use or sell? went on any side quests? immersered yourself in the experiance?

I think if you didn't do any of the following, I don't think you're playing it right, this isn't as story-heavy as Bioware games, it makes up for being a good RPG sandbox post-apocolyptic experiance.

am I being bias toward this game?

Yeah killing everyone because you decided to check your gun by shooting someone in the face....

Not the smartest move. It is a large free roaming game significantly better then oblivion(to me) you just.. gotta like.. NOT kill people to check to see if your guns work.

There is lots of neat stuff to do and side quests that are cool. Just, avoid, shooting, innocent, people, to, test, your, gun.

Give it this extra chance. Still don't like it. Trade it in it's not your cup of tea.

lmao! you dont flip random people off, its very anti-social....the first quest is either arming or disarming the nuke in megaton
Funny that, because the first quest is actually walking.... then taking a test... then leaving the vault. Hell, The Power of the Atom, is a side quest, you don't even have to do it.

It really might not be the game for you. I know people who really don't like games that they can get lost in, meaning there is no clear direction.

For some people, Fallout is just a little too open. The ability to shoot whoever you want and thus alter the story also annoys some. You can play this way, but it is going to be more difficult.

My rule of thumb for these types of games when I am suggesting them to others is to hold off on killing anyone you can talk to until you get a feel for the game. Once you realize how the game works, go on a killing rampage if you like. It's designed to work with you if that's what you like to do.

I don't get the "Don't shoot the people who sell you stuff" I started my most recent Fallout save by disarming the bomb to get the house and then murdering everyone in Megaton (Actually I did Colins stuff first) by the time I was done I had tonnes of cash, stimpacks and ammo. Evil is the easiest way to play.
If you don't know where Rivet City is then you just cut yourself off from any merchant who can repair your things. You'll spend more money on the items to repair your things. Thats why I usually locate Rivet City on my pip-boy and then blow up Megaton (though I usually save it because I generally play as a good guy). But you are right, evil is easier.

There is no such thing as a dead end subway station. They all lead somewhere. You just have to figure out how to get through it. It's not like they aren't terribly linear in the first place. Although, I was having a tough time with it too until I got a good grasp of the map.

Of course, Megaton is mad at you. You shot one of their people. The game doesn't let you get away with things like that. If it did, it wouldn't be an RPG now would it?

I suggest starting a new game. Don't kill anyone that isn't already hostile. Explore a little, try to enjoy what you're doing. If you don't enjoy it, don't keep grinding at it. Fallout 3 expects you to take the game as if you are from Vault 101. Realistically, you could never leave the vault and know exactly what to do. So you need to talk to people, think about what you need to do or where you want to go.

Me, for instance. I didn't want to do the main quest and put that off until the very end. It's much more fun -- in my opinion -- to trek the wasteland and try to find valuables. I've always been quite the looter in games anyhow.

It seems that Fallout 3 is either hated by people or loved by people.

I'd say just start over and not shoot random civilians. Unless you want to be evil. But evil is less fun, IMO.
