I've kind of had a debate going on amongst my friends about which game is the best of the three (Fallout 3, New Vegas, or Oblivion). Obviously we are all entitled to our opinions, but I feel as though the gaming community should add its input.
I saw a similar poll, but it was old and didn't include New Vegas, and I want statistics that are current.
Additionally (though I know this is a given on the Escapist, thus making my request redundant), include why by way of comment.

Ugh, I voted without reading because I figured you were asking which one to buy, and I am dumb.

I like NV more than Fallout 3, but I feel you will appreciate NV more if you have played 3. NV just seems like Fallout 3 in a new place with tons more stuff to do. And yes, I did wander the wastes in fallout 3. I have over 200 hours in that game before I even found dad.

Honestly, it's a hard call around to Fallout side of things to me. I definitely feel that they're both very fun. Howaever, one thing I like more about Fallout 3 is the leveling. You will have more perks to play with in Fallout 3, by the nature of the level system.

With the new patch fixing most of the old problems that I rage-quitted on for about a month, I'd say New Vegas has to get the winner here.

Fallout 3.

I haven't seen any conclusive evidence one way or the other about whether NV's latest patch actually fixes the problems, but I'm not optimistic.

I love Oblivion, the story's great, the weapons and variety are good and I could play it for days. Add that to the fact it was released in 2006 and that I love fantasy setting means that I couldn't choose either of the Fallouts over this masterpiece.

personally I feel that although outdated, oblivion is probably my favourite, there's just so much more to it, the randomised loot is what gets me, on fallout it's the same machine gun 10/10 times while on oblivion everything has random abilities like a sword that shoots fire or a crossbow that lets you walk on water.

sure the storyline and the atmosphere of fallout can't be beaten for playability I would have to go with oblivion.

NV is just irritating me at the moment, none of the damn companion quests work, all I want is power armour and not having to destroy the brotherhood and losing black mountain radio in the process -_-

also the weathered 10mm I want a laser pointer on it! is that so haard! :(

back on track though, I really enjoyed all the games and they are all amazing in their own right

It's still a little daly to say for sure, but Im enjoying Vegas more than Fallout 3... even though I miss my Chinese Stealth Suit.

Oblivion is a non-starter since I'm not a fan of fantasy settings.

I haven't encountered any major bugs or glitches in F:NV, so its definatly my favourite of those three games. It improves Fallout 3 in every department, gameplay, weapons and story.

I'd have to go with Oblivion. I haven't played Fallout New Vegas, but I wasn't much a fan of Fallout 3. I like games with likeable characters, and I found just about everyone in Fallout ridiculously boring. I mean, there is the occasional awesome character, but really not enough of them. As well, I liked the guild systems in Oblivion, esp. the Thieves' guild and the Dark Brotherhood. I found the story more enjoyable, the landscapes and towns much more fun to roam around in, and Fallout 3 had that retarded VATS system that took all the fun out of combat.

There's also the randomized loot, as someone mentioned before. You can get stupidly awesome equipment off regular enemies, if you're lucky.

Plus, I was a big fan of the first two Fallout games, I had been anticipating Fallout 3 for years, and it was a huge let down.

Even in its unpatched state, New Vegas won over Fallout 3 (and Oblivion). The game just has so many improvements to the core gameplay over its predecessor, and the story is a whole lot more interesting as well.

I haven't played an awful lot of FNV (only about 10 hours so far), but compared to Fallout 3 I like the latter a lot better so far. FO3 had a much more striking visual style and a tighter introduction. FNV also seems to have a lot of clutter that is kind of unnecessary, what with the ammo types and weapon mods. And FNV had a lot more bugs than FO3, and has worse general performance.

But I'm going to go back and play more before I make a final call.

Oblivion is ok. It's meh. It was a massive disappointment after Morrowind, my #1 game of all time. Right now FO3 is still #2, but I somehow feel like Bioware deserves that slot for some reason. Bah.
