Welcome to the Escapists.

Two quick to watch out for in future threads

-one sentence threads
-versus thread

OT: because I'm a gun geek in games so Borderlands obviously fits my bill, one thing I hated about Fallout 3 was that everything seemed to have a greenish hue. Also, i looted everything in Fallout 3, every desk, every garbage, everything and many times i died trying to get at a file cabinet that MIGHT have contained something worth $$$.

Ya know... I can't really choose. I played 'em both, I loved 'em both. I suppose I'll go with Borderlands just because it was co-op, I got to play with my good friend, and we had many a lulzy time with it.

Fallout 3, everything in that game has context, unlike Borderlands which is fun and has better shooting mechanics but is ultimately shallow and far less rewarding.
I don't know about it being less rewarding, that all depends on the person playing.

But I will admit it is a fairly shallow game, I do like it though, same with Fallout 3.
I guess what I meant was over long term play. Fallout 3 has a lot more depth and is intellectually and emotionally rewarding for a very long time, at least it was for me.

Borderlands was great fun for two playthroughs, after which it had nothing left to offer me except more fancy guns.
I think you are right there, I can agree with that. But for me, Borderlands has a sort of attachment to me because you are essentially treasure hunters, I thought it was an awesome idea for the game.

I don't really play any grind quest games or anything else with this formula that often, if at all. It's part of the reason I think Borderlands will last a while for me, because it's sort of new to me.

Yeah, it's a really clever, addictive mechanic. Especially when you do playthrough 2, and the enemies get much harder.

The sheer volume of weapons is just amazing, I love the Hellfire SMGs for my level 50 Lilith, or my Volcano sniper rifle that does explosive damage...

Strangely, I actually preffered playing it alone. I liked it that way as I could take my time and soak up the gorgeous visuals and atmosphere of the world.

Plus, my buddies and I alwasy argue over who gets what.. alone you just take, take, take!

Both.

Seriously, I've played both (currently I'm in the middle of Borderlands, and I've played Fallout 3 twice, without the DLC, which I purchased the GOTY edition to try out) and they're just both crazy awesome. I'd have to say that Borderlands is a bit more bang for your buck though if you like playing multiplayer.

That reminds me: since I'm going to re-review Fallout 3 (with DLC), and will review Borderlands, perhaps I shall combine them and do a double feature? Fuck, that'll be a mammoth post even by MY standards.

Hmmm this is actually pretty tough: Borderlands looks much better, significantly better core gameplay, plus excellent loot-whoring and multiplayer. It is, however, kind of a one-trick game.

FO3 has pretty shitty gun-play and worse visuals imo, but far more depth and variety. The vanilla game is kinda boring I have to say, but fortunately it's highly moddable, with a large and skilled modding community which can make the visuals, gameplay, quests, everything signficantly better.

So I'd say vanilla borderlands definitely, but if we're allowing mods which we do there's just far more to fallout 3. Borderlands is great fun to pick up and play with friends for a while, but fallout 3 is the full on rpg experience. Fuck I still don't know which I'd say I like more. This is why we hate versus threads

If you're more of a fan of RPGs and don't mind some FPS elements, than Fallout 3 will be perfect for you.
If you're looking for an FPS and don't mind some RPG elements, than Borderlands would be a better choice.

I just cannot be bothered to buy Borderlands as it just doesn't look very good.

Borderlands for me.

Fallout was fun, but Borderlands is amazingly fun.

But I do want Fallout.

Are you joking?? Games like this need to be explored.. u dont just do a story line.. i duno about you but i have spent over 100h on this game just wondering around findin cool shit to do..
I did every quest in the game (including the unmarked quests) and it only took me about 60 hours.
But did you explore each and every corner of the Wasteland and all of the dlc's? There is way more in the game than just quests.

OT: Considering I've never played Borderlands, Fallout 3

It's a puzzle as to why Borderlands didn't fly off the shelves.
Surely the 2000+ guns are more appealing to the dooped masses than Mw2s 40 something?
I think it sold around 500 000 which actually ain't bad for a small company like them.

It was never gonna compete with Modern Ragefest though.

All DLC can go fuck itself.

And no, I didn't check every corner of the map, but pretty damn close to it.
