which do you prefer to level up between these 2 games?

do you prefer to level up by getting exp and then putting the skill points onto your skills?
or do you prefer to level up by using the skills to level them up?

i prefer the elder scrolls IV way of levelling because in fallout 3, when you level up, you can put the skill points on anything you want which i dont think is fair. in oblivion, you can only level up when you use the skills.

well what do u people think then?

I like both, but it's irritating in TES that you have to sleep to level up, so I'll give my vote to Fallout's method.

Fallout.

The age old Elder Scrolls system sounds like a good idea, but in reality it's horrible to actually use, means that you spend far too long repeatedly performing repetitive actions to drag up a skill that you don't get enough opportunities to use because it's crap at low levels but useful at high levels, and makes the game generally far less fun than it otherwise should be.

I actually dislike Fallout system because you level up too fast and within an hour or two you've hit the level cap.

This could obviously be solved by raising the level cap above 20-30.

So for now Ill go with Oblivion, although sometimes that can be a nuisance if you want to level up fast because of the mindless repetition it takes to level one specific skill.

The oblivion system makes is more realistic, however Fallout's system makes the gameplay more flexible and less repetitive. I like the Oblivion system better though, simply because it takes longer to level up and there's a much higher level cap. In Fallout leveling up happens so often it doesn't seem important, and it's over by the time you hit thirty.

I prefer Fallout's. I also end up a high level because I like sneaking and pickpocketing in TES and when I finally enter combat I end up being outmatched by my sub-par combat/Armour skills :(

In Oblivion i liked levelling up by actually using your major skills, but hated having to sleep to gain levels, and it's the opposite for Fallout 3

To be fair, the addition of trainers softened this a little, but Fallout's XP system is infinitely more convenient and panders to us long-time RPGers who started with tabletop and worked our ways up. I actually enjoy getting to put my skills in whatever the hell I want with each level; that coupled with a high Intelligence means that I can have a really well-rounded character or a stupidly concentrated one by mid-levels. Then I can fart around for the rest of the game determining good combinations and the like.

Fallout 3, because it was a lot quicker, but it was a lot more balanced. ES4 you could grind two minor and a major skills ten points until your desired stats are where you want them. Fallout 3, you have to go out and work to kill things, then when you level up you choose what stats you want.

fallout....In oblivion you got weaker as you leveled up because of the rate the enemies leveled with you

Oblivion is somewhat more realistic, but I prefer Fallout 3, since training isn't a pain in the ass. Getting a skill like Athletics to 100 was an exercise in frustration in Oblivion.

I think Elder Scrolls has got a better leveling system, its unique and it makes it appear to be more like training rather than getting better at things that you have never done. I dont think you should call it the Fallout 3 levelling system, it should be the "everyother RPG leveling system".

Well yeah, if you focused on getting athletics up. I find it easier to concetrate on the ones you dont get by miving. :D And the inclusion of trainers makes the whole thing alot easier, if you have the cash that is.

I LIKE having a high athletics. Going very fast is fun... but Oblivion made it too boring to get.
