If you ask me, you're cheating yourself out of some quality gameplay not to get both.

That said, Fallout 3 is the more refined product overall. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky has a lot more immersion but is kludgier in many ways.

STALKER

Go with Stalker.

Fallout 3 has good atmosphere and everything, but the plot will make you want to kill children. What is it about Fallout 3's plot that will make you want to kill children? Well apart from the fact its doesn't make any sense whatsoever, there is one big thing. And that thing is called Little Lamplight.

So yeah, go with Stalker.

I'd say STALKER hands down, but then again I'm really huge on those games. Fallout 3 wasn't bad, but I just couldn't get into it. And if you're going to go with STALKER, get the latest one, Call of Pripyat. It's less varied (only a few different maps), but there's a lot to do in each one, plus there's almost no bugs in it. Clear Sky and SoC both had a ton of bugs, CoP not so much.

This, however I will add the implied caveat:

Get the original stalker, and the Stalker Complete 2012 mod. It makes the experience so much more rich. OR get Call of Pripyat, and I think there's a 'complete' version of that as well. Stay away from Clear Sky, it's the red-headed step-child of the family.

I haven't play Stalker, but as far as I know, you'd be better off with Fallout 3, It's my current winner for 'Best Game I Ever Played'.

I found it boring, but not bad...

OT: Fallout 3. You can spend hours and hours on it.

i like both but stalker shadow of chernobly is better than clear sky. fallout is more of an rpg but clean sky feels more post apocalyptic.

Look at it like this:

Fallout 3 is a MASSIVE open-world RPG with deep character customization, atmosphere, and so many little details that you could easily waste hundreds of hours of your life just exploring the game world.

While the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series actually feels like you are trying to survive in a hostile (but beautiful) environment with only minor RPG elements and stronger focus on the shooting aspect.

While I regularly play both games, You will probably get more out of Fallout. However, if you do choose S.T.A.L.K.E.R., go with Call of Pripyat, It's alot more refined than Clear Sky.

Having only payed Fallout 3, i cant say anything to STALKER. But let me say, I had no idea what I was buying when I got it (only i heard it was good), but it sucked me right in and ended up as one of those games i had a hard time turning off, so i'd recommend it.

I'll spoiler this for the sake of the OP.

Well for one it shouldn't exist. Apparently they boot out anyone who turns 16. Kids don't work like that. Put a 16 year old in with a bunch of kids and the 16 year old would be in control almost immediately. On top of that none of the kids can be killed, and you have to sit through them bitching you out and outright insulting you. And you can't get by them and their flimsy cardboard door entrance unless you hike all the way across the wasteland to a slaver camp and free some more damn kids.

In short. The kids have plot armor and cannot die. They know this, and use this knowledge to be the biggest assholes on the planet. You are forced to go through them. Its basically the writers at Bethesda giving you the finger, then punching you in the stomach.

I agree. Both games are extremely good, and both are worth playing. That doesn't really help, I know, but it's hard to decide when both games are so much fun to play.
