So I've just beaten New Vegas today, and I must say, this game was definitely better than when I first played through it. Back then I just rushed through the game with a High Speech ability, which I guess kinda cheapened the experience for me. Now, this game is among my favorites.

Anyway, about the ending.

I've gotta say, I kinda have some mixed feelings on the results I got via my choices. I made New Vegas independent and drove both the NCR and Legion away. At first I felt this was the best choice for everyone.

Until I ended up fighting General Oliver and his troops. I didn't really want to fight them, but they wouldn't back down. Plus during the epilogue, I noticed that the decision I made to make New Vegas independent had some consequences. Old Mormon Fort is struggling to help out it's influx of new patients despite helping them as best as I could before. Plus the NCR is clearly hurting due to Powder Ganger attacks since they lost so much power over the Mojave. It kinda made me feel bad because I have met some clearly good people in the NCR.

So long story short, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I chose to help out Mr. House or the NCR instead. It just feels like that no matter what choice I made in the matter, people were going to suffer.

So anyway, who did you side with? Did you feel satisfied with your choices in the game? What did you think of the endings overall?

Finally, which DLC should I buy? I really want to play more of this game, but I don't want to spend too much money on DLC, so if you were to pick one, which would it be?

Hell, just get them all, they're all fantastic and it's cool seeing how they all connect in the end.

They go on sale occasionally, get them all then, but Old World Blues was the most fun of the lot to me, though I haven't finished Lonesome Road yet.

They're all good in their own way, but if I had to choose one, Old World Blues, without a doubt.

It seems to have the most content and has some brilliant humour as well as being very useful in the main game (you get a great base of operations that you can teleport to at any time).

If Old World Blues were a standalone game, it would've been the best Fallout game ever made.

I've gone through the game for each of the four paths (some of them multiple times). I think Independent Vegas is the best solution. The Legion might be able to provide some short-term stability, but the cost is too great. That's not the kind of civilization I'd want to see come on top. The NCR is history repeating itself. There are good people in it, but also tons of corrupt people. And they they get more disorganized and boneheaded as they expand (giving convicts dynamite? Really, guys?). House is untrustworthy. He lacks proper perspective to run the world as it is, and has demonstrated that he will destroy anyone he sees as a threat (even if they are not, or could be reasoned with). Independent, the people will struggle for sure. But they've shown they can band together and make a self-sufficient community (The Followers, Westside). That would have to do, at least until a better solution appears.

On the other topic, I actually like Honest Hearts the best. It appeals to me much because I love the survival aspects of the game. It's really easy to get completely wrapped up in that frame of mind when I play it. All of the others are fantastic as well, though. I didn't like Dead Money at first, but now I love it. There's a great and heartbreaking story there as long as you're paying attention. Lonesome Road is the most linear, though I have no problem with that. It certainly fits its motif. And it probably has the largest implications on the Fallout universe depending on the choice you make at the end. And Old World Blues is great as well, and I expect it to get the most recommendations. It's very random and open, and is pretty funny too. It ties together a lot of the storylines from New Vegas and all the other DLC chapters.

Lonesome Road IS good but its much better when you play the other 3 first. i liked it maybe it was the climax or somethin

Dead Money: i wasn't big on it was very cool and i liked it but i suck at stealth and im not good at those sorts of games as a hoarder. i end up holding ammo and never using it

Honest Hearts: i liked it actually it was nice to see the place and i enjoyed it's story a lot more then Dead Money. you do get a 45. Machine gun which is the Thompson or the Bar. its pretty Boss

Old World Blues: i really liked this BUT, if you are at max lvl it will be hard and the weapons you get are pretty sub par as a result

as for Couriers Stash and Gun Runners Arsenal

i HIGHLY recommend GRA

Definitely play Lonesome Road, that's a definite climax to the story. Old World Blues was really good, but really silly too, I personally liked Honest Hearts the best. The survival aspects, plus it was awesome getting to go to Zion National Park and seeing it mostly as pristine as it was before the war. The Tribal/Religious element to it was pretty neat too. Plus, as mentioned, hello new sidearm, modifiable 1911s ftw.

All the DLCs are pretty good, but I think the one that stuck out was Old World Blues, mostly for the dialogue (good old Captain Quark). A short summary of my major thoughts during the others:

Dead Money: Why do I put so little into my speech and melee?!?

Lonesome Road: Custom Anti-Material Rifle, check, stealth boys, check, explosive rounds, check, shit it's getting close! Mummy!!!!

Honest Hearts:

There is no 'perfect' ending to Fallout New Vegas, no matter who you choose. It suits the game and its themes rather well.

For the DLCs I would go:

Old World Blues: Brilliant characters and some of the funniest dialogue in the game as well as some neat loot (but not the best).

Lonesome Road: Has some hard challenges, best DLC if you like powerful weapons/armor.

Dead Money: Nintendo Hard, deep storyline, not for the faint hearted.

Honest Hearts: Pretty, but that's about it, weakest DLC of the bunch (but still better than most DLC out there)

I didn't include the Gun Runners Arsenal because you've already completed the storyline, rendering this DLC useless unless you want to play through the game again. Then I would recommend it.

I love the endings. The mere fact that so many choices you make throughout the game affect the overall ending is just wonderful. All those small choices involving your companions in particular can massively affect how happy you are with your final choice.

First time I played I sided with the NCR as the tyranny of Mr.House and Caesar's Legion just didn't appeal to me. Also an Independent New Vegas as wonderful as it sounded was also too much of a gamble for me. Luckily I sent Arcade back to the Follower's camp so he wasn't routed out by the NCR for war crimes. Most endings have Arcade die in many horrible ways. I was also glad that I brought peace between the NCR and Brotherhood of Steel. Overall I was happy with my decision to side with the NCR. Although, if I had made some different choices before hand I suspect I would have massively regretted helping the NCR.

All the DLC for New Vegas is good and ties in really well with one another. Old World Blues is probably the strongest offering and Honest Hearts by far the weakest. Although I do have particular soft spot for Dead Money as it forced me to completely change how I played with a myriad of stealth sections and some brilliant temporary companions.

Other than playing Lonesome Road last I don't feel like the order in which the other DLCs are played are super-critical though taking on Honest Hearts (assuming you get and use the .45 machine-gun) can make a lot of the other aspects of the game easier as that thing fucking mauls Cazadores. My rankings of the DLC:

1) Old World Blues - Is amusing enough that I may end up someday starting a new play through of New Vegas just to get leveled enough where I wouldn't get curbstomped by this expansion as it is that good. The voicework is some of the best in the game and the "villain" is hilarious as are the appliances.

2) Dead Money - About the closest thing that AAA gaming has put out in the last few years that actually resembles a survival horror game. The backstory to the characters and environment are well done. Also in response to an earlier post I don't see a problem with the game being hard AND it isn't the gold reward that breaks the monetary system* it's the casino (which in Dead Money bans you after you win ~100x as much as any other casino).

3) Lonesome Road - I guess this was a conclusion but it wasn't much of one. I was expecting some sort of reasonable explanation and I didn't get, what I felt, was anything resembling one.

4) Having a spider dropped down the back of my shirt.

5) Honest Hearts - One of the complaints about Dead Money was that it doesn't feel very Fallout-y to which I would largely disagree and instead apply that criticism to this DLC. On top of that it's piss easy and short as hell.

*I would like to expand on just how broken F:NV economy is a bit. Mostly because between the casinos and the Jury Rigging perk there is, if one should so desire, no excuse for not having an effectively unlimited amount of money by ~level 20.

i have yet to reach the end but it's already spoiled it for my self
mainly because i am what tvtropres calls a spoiler hound

DLC: i got the Ultimate Edition that comes with all the dlc
dlc that adds content:

old world blues: i highly recommend it. you get a great house called the sink. everything that needs to be said about it has already been said in other comments. some of the loot is good but for the most part the loot is meh

honest hearts: it's not bad. the place looks nice, the story is ok and you get some good loot and some that sucks. over all i say it is worth it

Dead money: well it is very diffident from the rest of the game and dlc's
i beat it by cheating. 1/3 of the way though the dlc i was tired of that place and i missed being in the mojave. to finish it felt more like chore. but get very good loot.

lonesome road: i have not tried it yet

dlc that adds gun and stuff:
Gun Runners Arsenal: it add a bunch of guns and stuff. i say it is worth it

Couriers Stash: if you buying it alone it is not worth the money. but if you get the Ultimate Edition then part of the package but still essentially worthless

I would recommend getting all of them at some point, but to start off Honest Hearts would be a good one. It's not too difficult, you get some good equipment, it's interesting and fun!

Lonesome Road is the climax for the DLCs so I wouldn't get that one until last.

Far as endings went, I went with Mr. House for my first/main playthrough of the game and am overall satisfied with the ending. The other options are too shorted sighted for my liking. The only real negative effect was the Kings getting forcibly purged from Freeside but that was more a blunder on my part than anything.

Just buy the ultimate edition on Steam if you want DLC. It's $10 more than the regular game, and has everything (all 4 + the pre-order packs) in it, so you don't have to pick and choose.
