Imagine the balls it would take to re-release Fallout New Vegas and call it a "game of the year".
In my book, not a lot... Dammit... I really have to stop trolling forums about it, we get it, I love New Vegas...

I recently got New Vegas for £10 for 360. So adding DLC to that shouldn't be too expensive. I completely forgot about a GOTY edition though when I bought it to be fair :/

Oh calm down, not everyone hates it as much as you, some people think it should have been GOTY...like me.

If you already own New Vegas, I'd say get the DLC. If they do like Fallout 3, and make 5 DLC, buying each individually will be equal to the price on the GOTY edition. If you don't already own it, I'd say wait for the GOTY or just avoid it completely. It sucked. Duke Nukem Forever was better (and I actually enjoyed DNF).

Honest Hearts was terrible. Everybody I was with died, so I wondered off into the wastes. Then everybody I met kept attacking me, so I killed them all. Then I found out I'd just killed all of he quest givers. I could have reloaded, or used a hell of a lot of console commands, but by then I was just sick of it.

New Vegas itself was good. The DLC has not impressed me so far though.

Just buy the DLC. If you have the base game and Dead Money DLC already it's cheaper to just add Honest Hearts. It also means you don't have to wait. Did FNV even win any GOTY awards? Who gave it that award? Mass Effect 2 I thought won every GOTY award in 2010 (and if it didn't, it should have).

And don't forget some of the great mods and add-ons on NV Nexus [http://www.newvegasnexus.com/]. In particular all the texture packs and GFX fixes. There are some fun weapons, cool looking armours, backpacks, companions and so on.

PS. There's another DLC coming out soon (19/7/11), "Old World Blues" so maybe it is worth waiting after all...at least depending on the cost of the individual parts.

They have a few more DLC packs lined up as far as I'm aware, so I guess GOTY edition will come with all of them. I'll just replay it next year, once all of the DLC is out, I think.
Yeah Old World Blues which is being released on the 19th of July (I think) and Lonesome Road which will be released either in August or September.
That should place the GOTY in October right?
But it didn't win GOTY.
Neither did borderlands, but it still was rereleased with a game of the year edition.

now that companies release games incomplete to segment the market you are best off waiting until the complete version is released

the problem with modern expansion packs(DLC) is that it needs to be separable from the rest of the game so it can't fundamentally change gameplay

that means you are paying $10-15 for maybe a couple of new maps, a couple of new skins or even frames if you are lucky, and a few scripts tying the whole thing together for maybe 2 hours of gameplay

and even then dlc effectively ruins the rest of the game because it throws off the balance due to power creep

compare any modern dlc to Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction and you will find the former deficient

LoD expanded the gameworld and story by 20% added 40% more classes each with totally unique mechanics, added unique and set items for nightmare and hard difficulties, added the rune mechanic and sockets, added the totem system to utilize inventory space for toon building and much more

The game was fundamentally remade for significantly less than the price of a full game

Will they be standalone adventures? Or do we have word of Obsidian extending the story or anything, a la, Broken Steel?
Obsidian have specifically stated many times that they will not be releasing a DLC that continues after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. There are too many environmental, faction and character changes that would turn it into a completely different game and plus this way it offers more closure.
You know what I said, after I heard them say that in an interview, as an excuse for not having free-roam post game? I said "No there aren't?". As in no there are not "[So many] environmental, faction and character changes that would turn it into a completely different game." The only things that really change are the populations of all the Faction bases.

In fact, I think they should release a smaller-than-usual DLC that just puts you back in the world. Like a $5 DLC with NO quests, NO companions, no nothing....you just get to see the consequences of your actions. I think that would give me FAR more closure than a Fucking black and white SLIDESHOW.

I'd have to go over to the Legion Camp and see a mountain of dead legionnaire bodies....and they'd kick me out of Mojave Outpost/Forlorn Hope if I tried to enter (I sided with House). And that would probably give me the same tiny, but horrible feeling of doubt that the smoking remains of the BoS bunker gave me.

It would be especially bad for the people who went with the "Liberate Vegas" option because everyone seems to think that that's the "default good option". They'd have to live with the fact that they plunged Vegas into complete fucking Anarchy. It would teach them that "freedom always comes with a price" which is one of the morals of NV's story in the first place.

Who else is with me on this?

If New Vegas gets GOTY...I will put nails through my eyes...
Also you should wait for an all dlc pack...
That and buy Skyrim...

I'm not.

I like having an actual ending, and I personally thought the ending slideshow gave very good closure and explained what happened to almost every faction, place and major character you meet. One of Cass' endings was very well done if you ask me and the companions in general had very good endings, like Boone spitting in Lanius' face in front of all of his troops.

Even the DLCs have their own ending slideshows, something F3 lacked completely.

Oh and the slideshows weren't black and white.

I saw Fallout NV for 20 bucks in gamestop.
Plus 2 dlc and the future 2 it should be about 60 bucks total unless GOTY is cheaper.

But It's not the same as actually SEEING the consequences. The slideshow were nicely done, sure, but it felt like it was saying "ThxGG mkaybai".

They were like washed out, film grainy. Might as well be B&W.

I hope most people realize that a game doesn't have to win Game of the Year to get a GotY release. Plenty of games have done it.

They didn't feel like that to me at all. There were hundreds of different endings and they took their time and explained the important characters you met and places you visited, I was very happy after watching the ending slideshow for the very first time and my second time was very different.

Then there's the DLC endings, Dead Money in particular. It actually gives a lot of information as to what is to come and how the Courier and Ulysses will eventually meet in the future.

Plus you have to consider the fact that some of the changes would take time and you wouldn't see the results immediately, and if you don't then you just use your imagination to fill in the blanks (the very small blanks).
