Well, this should be fairly self-explanatory. But I'll explain it anyway. So, I was thinking of getting a new game and I thought of two games that I'd want to have. Those games being Portal 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Portal 2 I thought of because I liked the first one and I've heard a lot of good things about it. New Vegas is pretty much the same thing, I liked Fallout 3 and I've heard good things about NV.
I'm currently leaning more towards New Vegas, but if a staggering amount of people here recommend Portal 2, I'll get it instead.
I'm playing on the Xbox 360 and I'm planning on getting the Ultimate Collection (aka version with all DLC) of NV, if that matters.
Also, this is my first thread so feel free to say hello if you feel like it.

New Vegas is brilliant and will last you a lot longer than Portal 2, especially with the DLC.

They're both worth playing, but if I had to choose only one, I'd go with New Vegas.

Wow, those are some disparate games. Both?

New Vegas I got about 90 hours out of. I really enjoy those big sprawling worlds that Bethesda (via Obsidian this time) delivers, and I find it very easy to get lost in them. New Vegas is no exception. It's a glitchy, buggy mess, but most of that is likely cleaned up by now, and there's lots to love. Probably the most enjoyable sniping game I've ever played as well, you can set up with a scoped rifle on a nearby mountain and snipe guys from tremendous range, rather than 20 feet away. Very satisfying. On the downside, it's basically MOTS of Fallout 3, with a new setting and more polished plot/dialogue.

Portal 2 was good for about 15 hours. I actually enjoyed it more than Portal 1, as the additions of Wheatley and Cave Johnson have ratcheted the funny up to 11. It manages to keep the first game's powerful sense of melancholia and isolation alive at times, too, despite all the additional chatter. The puzzles aren't particularly challenging, but then I'm not a huge fan of puzzle games that break my balls. They're tough enough to make you scratch your head for a few minutes but easy enough that a solution is never far away. On the downside, it's pretty short.

Of the two games, Portal 2 is the more distilled, polished, impactful experience. New Vegas is much, much larger and longer.

Get both!

Haven't played Portal 2 but I would definitely recommend New Vegas.I thought it was better than Fallout 3 to be honest.Plus as Daystar said it will last you a lot longer.I easily put 80+ hours into a single playthrough of NV(and that was without any of the DLC)

Uh... they're kinda hard to compare.

I wasn't impressed by New Vegas. The omnipresent bugs and pathetic animation prevented me from getting into it. The combat rapidly became a repetitive chore. Besides, it just felt like an expansion pack for Fallout 3 with iron sights, marginally better writing and brown tinted visuals instead of green.

Portal 2 on the other hand was fantastic. Nigh-flawless design and amusing dialogue. Although it must be said that it lacked the perfect efficiency of the first game.

Portal 2 is a vastly superior game, but New Vegas will give you significantly more content for your money.

If possible, both. They're both amazing games and need to be checked out. If you can only get one, which I assume would be due to something related to money, you should get New Vegas, simply because it will last MUCH MUCH MUCH longer, and then have 'replayability', which is something Portal 2 doesn't. Don't get me wrong, Portal 2 is one of my favorite games, but I've only completed it twice because second play-throughs are dull.

They're both great games, for different reasons, but I got a lot more out of New Vegas than I did out of Portal 2.

Portal 2 I played through the first time and was enthralled, played through it again a few weeks later and had fun then I did the co op stuff which you can really only play through once since you learn the solutions to all the puzzles.

With new vegas Ive made a dozen different characters, each having a different theme from the unarmed suvivalist to the Enclave shock trooper wielding a gatling laser. That accounts to 100s of hours playing that game.

That alone tells me new vegas is the better one. A game I can forget after I finish everything just isnt as good of an investment to one Ill play over and over and over again (and that by default will give me more playtime)

New Vegas, I love The new Fallout games even if they catch a lot of flak from the 'fallout-purists' I immensely enjoyed Hardcore mode and I think it added a lot of enjoyment to the game. It fit in extremely well with the 'rads' feature of Fallout 3.

Portal 2 was good too, but I still preferred the first game even if it was shorter. The first portal was so fresh and funny the second one was still incredibly enjoyable but the humor felt a little forced.

New Vegas is one of my favourite games and I would definitely recommend it. The DLC is worth getting too, the game overall will last you a while though.

It depends. New Vegas will last you a lot longer, especially with all the DLC, but I have moments in it where it is a bit dull. Portal 2, while being much shorter I pretty much loved from start to finish. New Vegas for longevity, Portal 2 for consistent amazing quality. Whichever one you don't get, you should then get ASAP afterwards obviously =P

Both games are awesome and well worth the money.

That said, I put significantly more time into New Vegas than into Portal 2. Not because New Vegas is better than the Portal 2 (hell, I have no idea how I'd even begin comparing them since they're so different), but rather because New Vegas is simply a much bigger game.

I'd have to say Portal 2. It may be significantly shorter, but it has an unrivaled co-op mode and a vastly superior storyline in comparison to New Vegas.

It's basically the quantity over quality thing. Fallout is long and average. Portal 2 is short but real fun.

New Vegas isn't the most stable game out there and you'll be missing out on some good mods if you get it on 360. I'll say Portal 2 BUT go New Vegas if you don't mind the odd glitch.

portal is really good but it will not keep you busy more than a few hours but NV is the kind of game that keeps you busy for hundreds of hours.

I'm not a huge fan of the Portal games. I enjoyed them as in "it was okay to pass the time" not games i'd sink much into.

Fallout NV on the other hand i'm still playing now after hundreds of hours so it's well worth it.

Personally, I'd say Fallout New Vegas. I've got 125 hours logged on Steam (and that's not counting when I had it on Xbox). However, New Vegas took me a good long while to really start to get in to. The tone is very very different to Fallout 3 but now I prefer New Vegas. New Vegas is much more alive and has a lot more dark humour. It's not as oppressive and relentless as Fallout 3. It's kinda whacky (and a lot less stupid than 3). For me, I didn't really start to enjoy the game until I stopped doing the main quest and went and found the companions and started doing their quests (Veronica!).

I know you said you want to get it on Xbox but I would highly recommend waiting a week or two as this time last year it was the Steam Summer Sale and New Vegas tends to get pretty damn cheap in the sales. Also, the mods on the PC make the game incredibly fun and long lasting.

However, if you just want something quick and fun get Portal 2. It's a fantastic game and really enjoyable. Great story, great characters and downright hilarious.

So yeah, I'm kind of siding with New Vegas here but I would highly recommend buying Portal 2 as well when you have the money as it is fantastic.

Get Portal 2.

People keep saying that New Vegas is longer, but with the map creation kit just released by valve, Portal 2's longetivity just improved tenfold, there are a hundred thousand custom maps right this moment. Plus, it's not as buggy as New Vegas.
