Both are really good, but I can't add anything onto the "Portal 2 for more quality" and "New Vegas for more value for money" sort of thing going on in here already.

Edit: Given that you need to decide between one or the other tells me that maybe you don't buy games too often, so many NV would be the better choice to tide you over until the next time you have some money together. That said, Portal 2 has pretty good co-op stuff, and just got community maps too. So it still has al ot of potential if you're into doing a lot of puzzles.

NEW VEGAS ALL THE WAY MAN

saying that... its not for everyone, where as portal is. I dunno, I haven't played portal two since the steam work shop opened, but new vegas has like 200+ hours of structured content where as Portal has about 12 and then the random map's every one has made... and New Veags has that too.

If you get New Vegas go to Newvegasnexus.com, download the mod manager and get the Willow companion mod, Project Nevada and Nevada Skies... But if you get the willow companion mod make sure you are legal... she has a sexy dance

Can I just say, the girl who voiced Willow in that mod, she really went all out. Bravo to you, who ever you are

Edit: things about NV that piss me of

Bethesda needs to invest more in animations, seriously, I mean they have come so far since Oblivion, but they still need to work on it more. and if they do them really damn good they can recycle them in future games.

THE UNCANNY VALLEY. They took a step back with Skyrim I thought. The characters in New Vegas were the best they've done, but they need to to better I think. Mass Effect 3, with all its flaws, has the best. Say what you want about Bioware, you knew what was on Liara's mind the whole game and it wasn't reapers, that's for damn sure. We'll bang OK?

well it goes down to a choice between stellar sandbox/rpg or stellar story/puzzler.
They both are incredibly good . Portal2 is extremely polished ,but New Vegas will get you tons of value for money. Also Portal 2 has coop which great ezcept if your playing with a dummy

I honestly didn't enjoy NV, it was too big, and I just felt underwhelmed by the whole experience, I'm sure that there are many mods out there that can make the game more enjoyable, but as its own game, its kind of boring.

Portal 2 however, is a seriously fun game, that I cannot recommend enough, its got some of the best writing that I have seen in a game in a while, and its got some brilliant puzzles. Its also got a map editor, so you can make and release your own custom maps to the community.

New Vegas is brilliant and will last you a lot longer than Portal 2, especially with the DLC.

They're both worth playing, but if I had to choose only one, I'd go with New Vegas.
Pretty much this, you will get a lot more bang for your buck with Fallout: New Vegas. However, however... New Vegas doesn't have Wheatley and Wheatley is one of the best characters in anything, ever.

I may be wrong here and if so don't be offended but judging by the age of those games it can be assumed you don't get new games often. If that assumption is accurate I would recommend Fallout: New Vegas. The reasons being that F:NV is a great game with a lot to see and many many hours of replay value (I just started my 6th character) whereas Portal 2 is a fantastic game it is also very short on replay value and you may find yourself shelving it sooner rather than later. Of course I could have assumed wrong and thus made myself out to be a douche so...

New Vegas. According to steam, I've put 462 hours into New Vegas, but I only put 20 into Portal. I just started my sixth(?) character in New Vegas, but I haven't touched Portal 2 since I beat it and the online part the first time.

I recommend Portal 2 over New Vegas. Simply a sweeter experience...and I could never get over New Vegas's non-appealing graphics and it's rather poor shooting mechanics.

Do you want a puzzler with no replay? (You know all the puzzles) or an RPG that has infinite replayability and modability? (Fuck you, fan made puzzles etc).

Fallout: NV without a doubt.

Firstly, I'm noticing a lot of people missing the part where the OP said he was playing on the 360. So many of the New Vegas recommendations; of which are based on the suggestion of getting certain mods to make the game better; are not only pointless but invalid.

Secondly, as much as I want to recommend Portal 2 (as it is a VASTLY superior game in almost every regard), I simply can't. Namely, for the same reason most people are pointlessly recommending New Vegas.

That reason? You're playing on the 360.

Why does that matter? Well, if you were on the PC I'd recommend Portal 2 in a heartbeat. This is because Portal 2 on PC just received the Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC. This DLC added both a superb, and surprisingly robust, in-game map maker/editor as well as a community share feature. As such, with this new edition, you'll end up getting a lot more play time out of Portal 2 than you would New Vegas.

However, seeing as the console builds can't really get this feature, I'd have to suggest New Vegas. Which is a shame, really. Portal 2 is a much better game.

(One quick caveat. I notice a lot of people saying "New Vegas over Portal 2 because you get more play time out of it." This is a load of crap. More play time =/= better play time. Just because a game has you playing for a longer period of time does NOT mean that it's play experience is automatically better. I hear the same thing with people claiming one story is better than another because it's longer and has a lot more dialog. Something that just doesn't make sense. Saying that it's a simple matter of quantity, though, DOES make sense. Which again, without the PTI DLC, is something Portal 2 doesn't have over New Vegas.)

Huh, I didn't know this thread was still alive (pun unintended). Well, anyway, I got NV, because replay value and the amount of content is quite important to me. I'll get Portal 2 a little later. Thanks for weighing in, guys.

I hope you got the Ultimate Edition.
The DLCs (or at least 2 of them) are brilliant.

Yeah, I said I would in the OP. Nobody seems to notice that.

Portal 2 is a very easy and a very short game. I really don't understand why so many people praise it as something godlike. The puzzles are so easy a 5 year old could solve them. One can argue that it's about the story, but even if that is the case, you'll play the game once and never again. It has no replay value at all.

New Vegas is a great game. And it will consume a lot of hours. It is definitely worth every cent.

Well if you're debating which to get, then you must be strapped for cash, in which case portal is not going to get you value for your moolah, so get New Vegas and save up for something while you spend your hours killing adorable giant lizards.
