About 2 years ago i made a thread on here discussing the monetary system of Fallout 3. Caps.
How many caps did you have? What did you spend most caps on? Was the system they'd put in any good?
The general consensus was, of course, that you could after a few hours acquire so many caps that you never had to worry ever again for money and caps became meaningless mostly due to cheap items and availability of anything you'd want to buy and caps in general.

However in Fallout New Vegas there have been a few changes. NCR and Legion Coins. Increased prices (Buying everything in the gun runners store would take 100k caps!!). Increased cost of repairs. Merchants with more caps for bartering. More merchants. More in-depth crafting to produce what you need. Gambling. Hardcore Mode.

So Escapist, are you rich New Vegas socialites or are you struggling to scrape caps together for your next buffout fix?

With at least 7 Luck, you can easily break the casinos in that game.

It still was fun though.

No real difference, so far as I can see. I'm still rolling in caps and that's even without gambling.

It's a struggle for the first few hours but by the time you're level 20 or so and have bought all of the Implants, caps become meaningless...

...especially when you have Jury Rigger as a perk.

My char has around 50, 000 caps and that's without ever gambling.

Anyone who has played New vegas can tell you once you have your luck up to 7 it's pretty much game over. If you get it up to 10, like I did, your pretty much a demi god.

I have enough caps to get by without gambling.

I still haven't quite figured out, but do some places not accept the bottle cap currency? As NCR money is an item, but you just seem to trade it for caps?

I'm filthy rich, but it doesn't really matter in this game. Since you're so specialized in one area, and (generally) you can't buy the best guns for that one area, having insane amounts of money doesn't really equate to having insane amounts of power.

I'm level 23, and I just have 3000 caps :(

OT: I'd say caps are harder to come by, but I guess I'm doing something wrong.

Ah well, makes the game more fun anyway.

in fallout 3 I had spare caps but not enough to waste them while in new vages I bought a anti-material rifle and more then 100 each for 3 different types of ammo for it on top of repairs and I still had 25k caps left

The game itself mentions that $NCR are virtually worthless at this point, and Legion Fun Bucks are certainly not going to go over well in places that aren't legion territory.

But yeah, it was still stupid that there weren't any stores that actually took them. They were basically just padding so you don't have to risk your caps gambling.

Damn, I keep my caps to about 5 grand, and I thought that was good!

I don't really worry too much though, I have a ton of weapons and armor. Only complaint is I can't wear my power armor because it's INSANE the amount of money I have to spend on repairing it. I guess I'll try to up my bartering skill. That'll work, right?

I have my Luck at about 5, and never gamble.
It's better than FO3.
Guns are more expensive, I like that, it makes me think "Hmm... should I really get one?".
I often find myself with around 10-15,000 caps.
Not too much, but enough to feel rich-ish.
Once your high in the game you should have all the rare/powerful weapons anyway, and Jury Rigging, making buying new guns to repair old ones obsolete, especially if you have a good supply of Weapon Repair Kits (Or the mats to make them).

So yeah, all in all, it's better, but not great.
As people have said, if you have a high luck you'll rape the Casinos for every cap they have in no time.

I suppose until about level 16 Caps are relatively hard to come by, and you have to, on occasion, make difficult decisions about your purchases.

Well I'm kind of neurotic with my caps to be honest... I loot and sell every weapon and piece of crap I find. Means lots of trips to the shopkeepers! My Fallout 3 characters ended up with about 90,000 pointless caps each :D

Anyway, save up for the implants, that's all you really need to buy apart from 2 or 3 guns and your favorite ammo type, and a few stimpacks.

Eh, I'm good on ammo. Got 99 problems in New Vegas, but ammo ain't one of them.

I never had much of a money problem, I mostly stole what I could and only used caps for repairs.

I'm on my 8th play through so i naturally know all the ins and outs. I'm at lvl. 15 all implants, and got kicked out of all the casinos in Vegas. All party members have the best equipment i could find and I still am rolling in caps. Course at almost 500 saves and close to 200hrs it should be expected.....

It's not hard to get money, but there is a lot more to spend it on, really it just becomes one of those games where if you can buy something you will.

Up your repair to 90 and get jury rigging. You'll be able to maintain power armor with much ease :)
