Hmm, interesting. So most of the elements are already there, it's just a matter of putting them together. I just hope they improve the character system.
Read up on Vegas:

Hmm... Avellone actually being on the team would have increased my confidence, but I guess he's a busy man, on the other hand, the article(s) don't really have a definite on who's on the team. Of course, one of the things I always liked about Black Isle was that the team actually seemed to be having fun making the game, and there were little jokes, like the hookers in New Reno saying "I'd rather be with Avellone", or the fact that all the games they made had a character named "Feargus" in them (usually picking on him). I don't know, we'll see, I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm getting back into Fallout 3 after I quit it for fear I would lose connection with the outside world completely. I once spent 4 days without food or drink to this game. Fuck I love Fallout 3

Fallout 1 or 2 I find fallout 3 to be really shallow, its no wear near as deep and compelling as the first 2 and if you will forgive the maths analogy it try's to have the same volume as fallout 1 by being big instead, i never really care about whats going on in fallout 3 also the places are too shallow the are about 60 location with 1 thing to do in them (canterbery commons im looking at you) while fallout 1 had a few small towns absolutely crammed with stuff.

Also fallout 3's moral choice system feel not like "will you do good or will you do evil" it feels like chose from one of these pre set paths unlike fallout were your given a problem and then do whatever you want.

For instance when i start fallout 1 i do the shady sands rad scorp quest grab ian and then murder the entire town for the exp and loot fallout 3 wouldn't let me destroy an entire quest hub with its special npc's its trying to desperately stop me being evil going "no no dont be evil here go be evil in our special moral choice section we have set up over there see you can save the baby or grab the money isnt this great?" while fallout 1 goes "yeh go ahead and murder them your the one who is going to get shot and not be able to do there quests" even the blow up megaton quest still makes sure you can find Moira Brow and do the arifu quest afterwards while still giving you a house so even nuking a town has limited effect on the game itself

I find that Fallout 3 is much more appealing to the general market, I tried playing 2 and got bored after about half an hour of not knowing what the hell I was supposed to do... Keep meaning to give it another chance but not got 'round to it yet.

How long has Obsidian been working on New Vegas? The wiki said it was scheduled to be released in 2010 and considering Obsidian's track record with unfinished games, we really don't want this game rushed.

I voted 2 because 3 had some big problems in the restrictive ending, but I've played 3 the most by far. Honestly, I don't like the first one at all because of the time limit. I know it can be patched out, but I dunno how. I never really explored the game after I realized I would never be able to finish within that time period.

Edit: Two also had "Tragic cards", which I found hilarious as a magic player.

Fallout 3 is so different from the other two, it's really comparing apples to oranges. Fallout 2 probably had a better story and was more engrossing and didn't have the problem with trying to appeal to a mass market, but Fallout 3 had some moments of pure genius that were lacking in the first two. The shed with a single locked door and a skeleton inside with a book on lock picking, The Republic of Dave, and the bizarre fights between the two "super heroes" in that city to the North East were all excellent little pieces of dark humor that really made me love the game. I wish Fallout 3 hadn't carried the Fallout brand name with it, since it compares poorly to Fallout 2 in so many categories, but give credit that Bethesda was able to make it work as well as it did using the Oblivion engine.

I've only ever played one and two and out of those two is the best. Don't know why but just the overall impression I suppose. I've only played the first vault of 3 so I can't really comment but it seemed good, just a pity they cut down on the skills a bit too much in my opinion.

In my short opinion, I'd say Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are both the best in the series for different reasons.

Fallout 2 is like Fallout only improved, so in my opinion it is better than it. Fallout 2 has great dialogue, a good plot, interesting characters, and the best soundtrack.

Fallout 3's dialogue is okay (there are some really good lines, but some really bad ones to), it's main quest is pretty bad when compared to previous Fallout games, and the soundtrack isn't as good as the old games (but it's still above average). However, and this is really just my opinion, the combat in Fallout 3 is far superior to that of Fallout 2. I honestly don't know why but I really don't like Fallout 2's combat. I like turn based combat, but Fallout 2 just feels incredibly outdated, which is odd as I don't have this problem with most old games. So both games are equal in my opinion because of their negative and positive characteristics.

I did try Fallout 2...but personally, I like Fallout 3 a lot more. Not because of the graphics, but it has better mod support (for PC version)...I like real time combat a lot more than turn based combat. And it seems more "open"...seeing how in Fallout 2 the game ends after a certain amount of time. In Fallout 3 I don't even really need to do the main story line, if I don't want to.
Uh, the game doesn't end. It pretends to have a time limit and then something else happens and it doesn't.
Actually doesn't Fallout 2 end permanently after 13 years? Not that you would ever play the game long enough to get to that date.

Fallout 2 had the best atmosphere but 3 had the best gameplay so far.
I have grown up playing the Fallout Series, not including F:BoS, and i think you have gotten that statement backwards.

Fallout 1, was an amazing games, it was close to one of the first PC games that i ever cared about. Spent hours in that game.

Fallout 2 was a masterpiece. There is not a part about the story, gameplay, or simple variety of weapons, random items, side mission and characters that i did not enjoy. It was the first time i cared about the character i was playing.

When it comes to Fallout 3, well simply put i am disappointed. Yeah the game was like style of oblivion(never played it, dont want to) , yeah it was 3D, and pretty, but when you get down to whats important Fallout 3 is lacking in gameplay and detail. The game looked real but played very unrealistic.

Its hard to explain to those who haven't played or enjoyed all the other Fallout games. But here is analogy, Fallout 2 is to Fallout 3 as GTA: San Andreas is to GTA: IV.

However if you are new to the series is suggest you play Fallout 3 first, and then play the others so you wont be sad like i was.. fallout 3 was fun, but fallout 2, 1, and even tactics was better.

honestly they should have just taken Fallout 2, and made it 3D like F3. That would have been a good game. not what they passed off as a Fallout game....

fallout 3, although i love RPGs which is more of what FO1 & 2 are, something about having a powerful gun makes rpgs less fun than say, having a powerful sword as is the usual. Taking turns shooting is a little bit weirder than taking turns slashing

Dunwich Buliding.
Vault 106.
Vault 92. (With Overseer Richard Rubin.

Enough said.
The whole atmosphere of following the holotaped clues, feral ghouls/raiders/mirelurks trying to rip you apart, the weird flashbacks and the sad, pathetic souvenirs of people long gone are brilliant.

Its because of locations like the above 3 that I keep forgetting I'm meant to be completing quests, and not just exploring for shits and giggles (and forgetting that I need to eat, drink, sleep etc in real life).

I actually have to go with Fallout 3, even though I played the original two games when they came out. It's so much more immersive due to simply being first-person. And more than that, it just surpassed my expectations of being the latest entry of a classic series, and made me one happy gamer.

The first two are still awesome games, though. I have to say I like the first better than the second - it's the one that set the standard, introduced us to the setting, and just started it all for an awesome series. 2 just seemed sort of... I dunno, too crazy? Some of the sidequests and easter eggs and enemies just didn't feel Fallout-y to me.

And if 3 is too easy, 1 and 2 could be damn hard, at least during early levels.

I think Bethesda could take some hints from this for New Vegas. The great thing about an RPG is choosing a role, a unique playstyle. If I can max out everything then that defeats my characters uniqueness. Also, up the challenge some more! By the time you get an assault rifle the game is a piece of cake. Make ammo and money more scarce. Rewarding exploration is nice, but it isn't worthy of being over-rewarded in a game like fallout. People will explore naturally.
They arn't making New Vegas. Obsidian entertainment are.
Any idea who doing project V13?

Anyways, I was also introduced to the series at Fallout 3, but soon after completing it I read up on all the characters that have been in the previous games. I might look and see if my really old gamer friend has the previous ones.

I assumed he was referring to the "GET THE GECK OR YOU LOSE" and the "TIME IS FADING BECAUSE YOU'RE TAKING TOO LONG" stuff.

I had no idea it had a permanent 13 year ending, and I was quite sure it didn't.
