Poll: Fallout TV series - The Wasteland

Imagine a Heavily Serialized Fallout TV series in the vein of Game of Thrones, Rome, Sopranos, where you see the point of view of many different Wastelanders! A show that retains the ironic humor of Fallout, along with the Gritty realism we have come to expect from modern day television. The topics of Science, Nuclear War, Anarchy, would all play very well into a Sci-fi fantasy series.

I feel like a good starting point would be something similar to the Vault-Break Out from Fallout 3, where the (Main)character is forced out of his safe comfy home, and sent into a torn landscape of former America filled with criminals and mutants with nothing but his baseball bat to keep him safe.

The intense flash of light from leaving the Vault could act as a transition where it could then switch between characters from all over the wasteland and then show each of their intersecting storylines, whether the effect each other in life, or in Death. And Death means everyone, no one is safe in the Wasteland, and even the main Vault-Dweller should constantly be tip-toeing around impossible enemies and obstacles to keep the sense of realism in a terrifying alternate future.

Well What do you guys think? Where would you take a Fallout TV series?

I'd love it if they started off using Fallout 1's storyline, but soon turn it into Fallout 3's storyline (obviously some new storyline as well, but to utilize those as a starting point). It starts off in the vault with everything going good until the water chip breaks and clean water stops being created. The vault holds something similar to the famous "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson (if you're unfamiliar with it, here's the short story: http://sites.middlebury.edu/individualandthesociety/files/2010/09/jackson_lottery.pdf) After a person is chosen, it turns out to be our protagonist who is set out into the world with no knowledge of how to utilize a gun or how to survive. Over the course of the season, he meets some companions who help him out and by the end of season 1 they get the water chip, only to have it stolen and for them to be left for dead by the robbers.
Season 2 starts where Season 1 left off, and now they're trying to get the water chip back before the vault runs out of clean water and dies of dehydration. The gang meet the robbers, take them down, get the water chip back and set off back to the vault. By the end of Season 2, it turns out the Enclave have wiped out the vault's inhabitants. Enter the cliche meeting with the final survivor (the overlord) only to hear some final words that help the protagonist and his gang understand the Enclave and why they did this.
Season 3 and onward would then be the protagonist and his group searching for the Enclave for some good ole fashion payback.

I really like this idea, I would also like to see a super mutant as one of the main characters later on, I mean think about it you need comic relief that can also be a badass. A Super mutant companion is the way to go.

No. Not because I don't like the idea but because numerous bad video games movies tell me that a TV series would probably also be bad.

If it was like The Walking Dead has been, having a primary 'group' but also investigating other nearby communities and such then yeah, of course.

I would like to see one that focuses on a wanderer joining a community and trying to come to terms with living in the wastes without having some giant world damning plot going on around him immediately.

To mention The Walking Dead again, if a relatively obscure comic can make it to the silver screen or Game of Thrones and become what is essentially the current flagship for their studios then I think the 'nerd culture' could support a Fallout series.

I think it would do well. There's a book series I used to read which took place in a post apocalyptic America. It makes for a good setting imho.

Also, there was a cool series called, "The Colony" a while back where a group of people try to survive in an abandoned warehouse district. It was kind of a social experiment thing.

No. Not because I don't like the idea but because numerous bad video games movies tell me that a TV series would probably also be bad.

Just because previous attempts failed doesn't mean new ones will, look at superhero movies. It took them forever to get a good one and it wasn't until recently that they actually started to get consistently good at it (Spiderman and Batman Begins is what ushered in the new Superhero era). I'm not saying it will be bad but if I can try it as just another part of my usual programming without having to buy HBO or some shit I'll at least give it a shot.

Also, if they tried to do an adaptation of one of the games and not an adaptation of what the series actually is they will almost definitely fail. Like stated before with superhero movies, none of them really take a specific piece of source material and convert it to movie form because comics and movies are written very differently. Its the same with video games but to a MUCH more substantial degree.

I loved that show for the problem solving and group communication dynamics. It really showed just where the breaking point was.

I'd love to watch a Fallout show, though, I wouldn't want the story to be the direct Fallout 3 story. I thought it would be cool if you got to see it from some random, "Star Trek Redshirt's" perspective, and perhaps, each episode or couple episodes would see that person story arc concluded by death or safely reaching a city, etc...oh, and each story would revolve around them meeting the character from the game, like, this guy ran into him at Tenpenny Tower, etc...man, just so many possibilities...

I like that idea. Its similar to World War Z, where stories' of the events are told through many separate accounts. The only difference being that in WWZ, we already know how it concludes.

Just watched the first season, and while I appreciate the authentic look of the series, and the awesome references to the fallout series; the story itself is terrible and cheesy and the main actor/creator just is not a good actor nor a good fit for the vault dweller.

You can tell they put alot of effort into it, but they need more direction and a different main character thats more believable.

What Im asking for is more of a Gritty/realistic series, one that has silly moments but its rare and displaced from the serious aspects of the show. So for example in Nuka-Break the Mysterious Stranger helps kill a radroach for the main character, which is a silly reference.

I know Nuka Break is silly, but it's the only one I could think of. This one, however, is much grittier than Nuka Break. I'm not sure if it's quite what you're looking for, but it should at least be close.

If it had interesting characters, had well written plots and wasn't afraid to explore things the games haven't done I would check it out.
