I preferred the original.

The sequel is a lot bigger and more intricate, no denying that, but it felt less focussed to me.

Also, the sequel felt like a bit of a rehash. Oh, and it was buggy and had chunks of content missing.

I would go for the first, in my opinion it is better. However if you want a longer game (but still good) go for the second.

2 was a lot more fun to me.

It wasn't as stingy with its grinding opportunities, it was bigger and it had more humour.

I'd go over to gog (dot) com and see if they're having any sort of special/sale with Fallout 1/2.

Personally, I enjoyed FO2 a bit more.

Go with Fallout 1, see if it's your thing, and then go for Fallout 2.
No point starting with 2 if you might not like it.

I would go with Fallout 2, it's got far more to do and has alot more humour in it. I loved the first one, but usually just found myself wandering around not really doing much.

Fallout 1 has better main storyline, but 2 has more of everything. There's also the Restoration Project for 2 that brings back a lot of the cut content (and has some optional mods/tweaks), which I like a lot.

I guess if you want more of a sandboxy type RPG with more stuff, go with 2. If you want a more focused story, 1 is better. The first game is also a lot easier to get into, so it might be the better choice anyway.

Back in the days? Fallout 1, easier to get into, more focused storylines, more streamlined while still retaining that cooky, quirky open-world gameplay we all love.

Fallout 2 was (and as i've stated and will again, i love this game today) buggy, unfinished, prone to crashing and unfinished with a LOT of cutout items, among them unfiinshed storylines and removed solutions to the game :(

HOWEVER. A beautifull, wonderfull man named Killapp has worked dilligently for years and gotten it all back together, and working. Adding several quests, a lot of characters,a lot of animations and proper endings. The game doesn't crash anymore (played 25 hours time two and it hasn't crashed once) and a lot of disabled endings are enabled again. And it brought back the replay value that i think is more varied than in the first one. Giving a lot of nuances to you're gameplay not merely a good/bad/all dead jim endings.

He took a half made coal loaf and gave us diamonds.

But regardless of my sujective gushin. Odds are you're going to want to mod the game whichever you buy. So i'd like to refer you to

Nomutantsallowed.com

A lot of mod, a lot of love, and a lot of good information.

I hope you enjoy the game despite it's age, let it be your patient game-Milf teaching you....

that ended on a low note. Bad analogy.....

Fallout 3.
The OP wants to play a GOOD Fallout game, not Bethesda's nonsense.

3 is the one to stay away from.
I'm just curious, why is it all Fallout fans hate Bethesda's instalment in the series? I've only played Fallout three and two and thought three was better in many ways- it is just personal taste though.
