Care to tell more about the story or the character himself? I pick 3 at the moment but I feel my opinion would be different if I know what this character act and move etc.

THE GROSSMESSER! It's the European katana:

Made for slashing, creating deep, serious cuts and dismembering.

Here's the cold steel guys using one:

Fantastic.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and if you want to find out more about portraying medieval weapons realistically this site: http://www.thearma.org/ is excellent, and there are several Youtube enthusiasts who do a good job dispelling myths (Like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/user/lindybeige#p/u/76/hqtp08ZSAYE although he does rant about a lot of other stuff, and can be very opinionated, but his vids on medieval armour and weapons are good)

The Falchion was the most appealing one to me. Seems to be the one in the lead at the moment, so I'm not alone!

What are you trying to say about the character? The weapon could very well be an extension of that.

Cuz if i see the scimitar I think someone who is pragmatic, as few blows as possible, wants the fight over now. The 2nd one makes me think of someone who uses flourish, panache. So on and so on.

Grosse Messer.

I assume it is named that because it turns whoever you use it on into a gross mess of blood and guts. Or it's a foreign language. But that's less fun.

If you go two hands? Zweihander. Gigantic sword, capable of decapitating a horse with one swing. Pulled double duty as anti-cavalry and as a regular two-hander...As the name suggests. From the above choices, for one hand? Number two. It looks like it'd get the job done.
