Ok for a console but falls short for a PC game

1. Respawning enemies and even worse buildings, might as well just make them indestructable.

2. Buddy won't get in the jeep to fire the gun.

3. Enemy jeeps ram into you and they dismount why not shoot like a dog fight.

4. The most tame civil war ever seems like everyone would rather kill you.

5. Leaving the diamond cases that only really exist as an Xbox achievment, how do I know in this 50Km square patch of Africa there are 226 hidden suitcases containing diamonds, why after finding one do I mark it on the map?

6. Repetative missions another 2 Jeeps+Flatbed pickup.

7. No civilians even the Buses don't have drivers.

8. Those blue boxes with the floppy disc to save at when I have F5 as quicksave

9. Asking me to save every time i get out of bed

10. Guns glow bright yellow/green when dropped

11. That screen telling me how far I have walked or driven (wonder where that idea came from)

The idea was to make the game immersive but they take soo many steps back sure it wasn't a port but they kept the experience across every platform.
The shameless ripping off the GTA series, packages are now suitcases and point number 11 is a carbon copy of the one in GTA.

The most annoying thing is the travel times to missions. They wouldn't be so bad if there weren't patrols and outposts to be avoided (in vain) and fuck you up. The missions also end up being fairly repetitive, though I haven't reached the second area of the game so hopefully things will pick up then.

I still like the game and enjoy playing it, though.
Not really, Kill this, explode this. The only difference is the "Significance".

I still play the game though, its not got fully old yet.

Played it at a friend's house tonight. I think it should be renamed Jeep Adventure 2. All I seemed to do was drive (poorly) from one clusterf*ck to another.

Looked pretty though.

I really like it but I think if you're not playing the game at high difficulty it gets really boring. I had a friend playing it on Easy and he was bitching about how repetitive it was since all you do the whole game is ride up in a jeep and hop into the turret. When I played it with the difficulty cranked up I really enjoyed how tense the game was.

I mean, everything is trying to kill you. Your guns are trying to, your malaria is trying to. It makes Mega Man 9 look like the friendly village baker. It's just S.T.A.L.K.E.R. set in Africa to me.

I'm fine with the outposts, and the weapons( dart rifle+MP5+desert eagle/uzi/silenced pistol= epic win.)

i hate the little things. like how EVERYONE hates you.really,i understand the assault trucks that always seem to go faster than me,but when i see a coupe come flyin' outta nowhere to get a shot at me,and he shoots me,and i shoot him,and he dies, and i die a little inside.

also, the damn underground missions.oh your outta pills?go to the hospital!oh,THEY'RE outta pills?go to some dude who does nothing medicine related!he'd have some!

I've only played it a little, so the only significant issue I have with it at the moment is that you can't adjust the controls to switch the triggers without also switching the analog sticks. It might not sound like much, but if you have played video games for years with the concept of "move with left stick, camera with right stick", it is a pain in the ass to try to flip that concept around for one game. Being left-handed sucks.

I still haven't finished the game because Far Cry 2 pisses me off really really often and I drop it for a while.
Why are there even any vehicles in the game, every 60 feet there's a guard outpost or a tree blocking the path. If you try to just drive through them you'll be shot to bits along with your getaway car. Clearing the encampments is useless, because they re-spawn faster than mobs on mmorpgs. After a while the weapons become a bit too overpowered in comparison to the enemy, especially if you like sniper rifles. Sneaking is a pain in the ass, because the slowest movement speed the protagonist knows is running while ducking, which alerts all the enemies unless it's pitch black outside. And since you're gonna be doing most of the missions IN pitch black anyway, you'll find yourself walking through the same copy pasted field over and over. The big map wouldn't be a problem if you could get from point A to point B without slaughtering 100 enemies, so you end up using the bus half of the time, but that kinda kills the whole big area thing. The navigation system is a pain in the ass and that's the biggest compliment I can give it. All bile aside I have to say it's still a pretty good game: The weapons come in many different shapes, sizes and decapitation methods. The area during day time is pretty sweet and the burning effects are sweet.

I'm at 60% right now, and the game frustrated me a lot in the past, especially the enemy encampments and random vehicles. This all changed when I bought the MLG-140, possibly the cheapest weapon I've ever encountered in an FPS. Seriously, if anyone is still having trouble with this game, buy the MLG, because enemy camps and cars don't stand a chance against a grenade launcher with a scope.

The lack of a party system on the 360 (unless its been fixed in a patch)..

My enthusiasm and desire to play the game got headshot'd right there and then when I saw I couldnt play with my friends on ranked thanks to no party system.. whats the point of having a shortcut to your friends list if you cannot play together?

Seriously.. its 2000 and fecking 8.. ¬_¬

I'm not entirely sure how far I am through the game, but that doesn't really bother me at the moment. There isn't really much I can complain about, really. The AI is a bit cheesy at times and the respawn rate is alarmingly quick (during one mission I was waiting at a guard post to take out a convoy. As soon as the convoy was destroyed EVERY guard at the guard post respawned, which made for an interesting little fire fight).

On the plus side, I'm loving the weapons. My current weapons are: Silenced MP5 (Primary) Silenced Pistol (Secondary) and an RPG-7 (Special) I also have a gold plated AK47 in storage, that I stumbled across when hiking through the back country.

Biased poll much? :)

I started playing Far Cry 2 and wondered why it wasn't clicking with me. The I went and played Fallout 3 for a bit and it dawned on me what it was. Ubi have made an open world RPG, without the RPG.

There's nothing to do except drive around, shoot people and look for diamonds, and that's boooooring.

Except that it isn't an RPG, it's an open world FPS. Hence the shooting of said people.

And that, sir, is my point. It's not an RPG, but it's pretending to be one.

Because they made an open world? That's pretty much the only RPG-ish aspect of the game if you ask me. I just see it as an odd FPS, maybe even a first person sandbox game, but I don't see it as an RPG. Of course comparing it to Fallout is going to make it seem simple, but I personally don't have a problem with the relative simplicity.

Well, different strokes for different folks I guess, but for an open-world game, there's not a lot to do.

OK lets break down a few things here. I'll throw what and then what I dislike
I love how the enviornment settings work in the fact that some trees can be cut down and how leaves move out of the way when you brush past and how the lighting comes in. The Fire element is alot of fun and makes for a great natural defense when ever theres still things left to be burned. There is plenty of weapons to be bought and some are fun to play with ex. IED's (great for the ambush missions of the arms dealers). The Map editor is also alot of fun to work with and can provide hours of entertainment
ok here comes the bad part

I dislike the health system in the game along with the incompetent AI on both sides of the game. I have only played the Xbox 360 version but I have yet to find something amusing in the bang bang shoot em up section. There are a few things about the game that drive me crazy...

1. The Health system is understandable but impossible. Malaria kicks in at the worst possible moments and when it does you have no option but to open the bottle of pills and take one (which caused me to die 4 times in a row).

2. Second of which is the gun jamming, i can understand if a gun jams but an AK-47 jaming? that never happens, at least its accurate in the fact that its inaccurate as hell just like the real one. Not to mention I bought the dragonof SVD sniper rifle from the arms dealer (best weapon so far in the game in my opinion) and started shooting well guns from the arms dealer arent supposed to jam right? wrong, the gun jammed more than he one I picked up off the ground. So to fight off the ungodly swarm which moved towards me I picked up the Russian Machine gun and started to fire off rounds only to figure out that you could hit someone in the face with a 7.62mm round (its a really big bullet) and it takes about 15 hits to take one guy down..I mean seriously how many shots to the torso can you take before you are pulverized...obviously its alot according to this gun. Makes me feel better about being a soldier.

3. The Vehicles, They are fun to drive but they all go about the same speed and some pop into fire faster than others. The way you fix the car is to take out a ratchet and turn a bolt head to make it stop smoking? oh so that's all i have to do now? fuck the mechanic who charges me 250$
lets not forget the AI who drive the vehicles who ram you consistently and are for no reason all of a sudden come out of the wood works to ram you and get out of the vehicles casually and shoot you. What did we just throw AI to the wind? Not to mention they will come after you but they try to use the road as much as possible, not to complain but who ever heard of a road in the middle of africa? (one glitch to use to your advantage drive on the train tracks to get around areas, the AI will run on the track and off the other side and repeat on the other way which makes for an amusing scene)

4. Scarcity of life. Where are all the animals, I've seen gazelle, zebras and birds. No snakes, spiders, buffalo, giraffes yada yada...its Africa for crying out loud.

I think they should have never gotten away from the Cry-tech engine. Ubisoft made a pretty good game but theres alot of things left up for grabs

oh yeah and yahtzee if you read this please have no mercy on this game, I can't wait to see what you think

a combination of The side missions are to repetitive. and The map is too big, before I reach the place where the mission is I get bored. for me.

When I get the feeling "Hey, didn't I do this a couple of times already?" in a game, I don't tend to play it for long.
Drive a couple of miles, shoot some merc's, check for suitcases, hop back in to the jeep...rinse repeat.

A shame really, Far Cry 2 had a lot of potential IMHO.
