Usually if I see a time achievement of some sort, I think for a moment then realize "nah, I'm never gonna get that on the first playthrough". Admitting this I take my time on my first run to try and experience as many different things as are available. RPGs like Shenmu and Oblivion are my anti productivity as I try and find every little thing. Same goes for adventures like Dead Space where finagling every ounce of gameplay out of it is paramount. Even fast paced FPS games like MW and such I'll spend time just looking at scenery and trying to appreciate whats going on around me, after all the level designer built it for a reason, large areas are to be explored.
The play fast thing is well and good, oft I'm caught skipping through really long winded dialogue but that's because it's usually put in inappropriate areas such as the middle of a firefight. Considering the long and short of how video games have evolved story and visual wise, I think it's fine to stop and smell the sprite roses every once in awhile.
