The Joker (more specifically, the Mark Hamill incarnation from Batman: The Animated Series).

My favorite has always been scarecrow, fromwhen I was growing up watching the animated series until now. One of the reasons I didn't like Batman Begins, Scarecrow is a lame side-character almost.

The Joker, specifically Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight.

I like Mark Hamill's Joker just fine, and I still have a soft spot for Nicholson's Joker, but Jesus Christ, man. Ledger's Joker is the ultimate enemy for Batman.

I would give an obscure answer, or say something sarcastic like Calender Man, but like the many people here I will say the most obvious: The Joker. Why? Because it's like he's TAILORED to suit every single one of the things people like nowadays, he's insane, murderous, funny, cool-looking, well designed, well-rounded, has a good backstory written fully by ALAN FUCKING MOORE in one of the best Batman graphic novels, The Killing Joke. And on top of all that, he's INTERESTING. Joker actually FEELS insane, psychotic and creepy, from his violent mood-swings, personality changes and obvious schizophrenia, to his taste in clothing. He is, for all intensive purposes, completely and utterly awesome.

I know people vote against The Joker sometimes because the hordes of sheep into comics will say The Joker, but to me it's the one totally mainstream character that I LIKE. The Heath Ledger Joker didn't even sway me, it was a good portrayal, but in the end I preferred the Post-Crisis comics Joker. Insane, murderous, with a twisted sense of humour and a snazzy dress sense.

If only he looked like this [http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n370/ParallelStreaks/hon01_4542c3ddf015d-t.jpg] in The Dark Knight. Would've been awesome.

..If I had to choose another, prolly Prometheus.

Personally, I like Hush and feel like he's been downplayed a bit much in the comic. He's the near-perfect "karmatic" opposite of Batman and I find that really cool for some reason.

Bane. I have a soft spot for one-dimensional character archetypes. Especially when they beat the hell out of the heroes. Doomsday and Darth Maul also fit this category of villain - not the deepest people, but badass nonetheless.

Also, if we can go alternate universe: Superman. Red Son Batman is superior to all other Batmen.

Mmm, so cliched, but the Joker is my favourite. Probably biased because of The Darkn Knight and Arkham Asylum, but whatever.

Quinn Quinn QUINN!
This. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy combo always works well.
How come the Riddler isn't on the poll though? He's like the second most famous to the Joker.

Was I the only girl that grew up hoping to one day maybe be fractionally as badass and sexy as Posion Ivy (only as played by Uma Thurman, mind you)?

From the age of 8 she was like my supervillian idol (we've all got them, be honest).
