Simply put, which generation of consoles do you like the most? Which has the most classics, the best system, or the best general atmosphere for gaming?

For me it's a tough choice, but I think I'm gonna go with the N64/PS1 era, simply because there are so many games there that I still love to play, Banjo Kazooie, FF7, Perfect Dark, and Majora's Mask to name a few. SNES age is a close second though.

Keep in mind though that while I'm listing the generations by the most popular consoles at the time, handheld and PC only games also count towards which is your favorite.

In my mind SNES and PS are the same era. (But i clicked SNES)
SNES for me was when Donkey Kong because more than a 16 bit flat character, but before the 3D polygon came in where it made me feel dizzy.

Also, I can never get over the excitement of discovering Resident Evil on PS1.

While I do love the N64 and Xbox as part of my childhood, I have to go with the current gen. This gen has had the Bioshocks, the Fallouts, and the Rune Factory Frontier (Wii). It might be a bit of skewed question because this latest generation has lasted so long.

I still love my PS1, but the 360 and PS3 are just so damn awesome! Modern games are just so big now you can literally spend days playing them! :p

The Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 despite me getting ridicule for owning the Gamecube from my PS2 mates (former) back in High School.

The N64 is probably my favourite console of all time, but PS2 had the best game library, hands down.

Nostalgia-wise: wherever Amiga would go. And it's actually a PC too.

Realistically: Now. Games just keep getting better.

Oh, and then the mandatory PC gaming master race rambling.

The N64 and PS1 were bloody amazing but I'd have to go for PS2 simply because of the bigger catalogue of brilliant games. I don't think anything will ever top it.

Why, the PC generation of cour-

ARGH! NO! Forgive me, I couldn't help myself.

In all seriousness, current generation by far. No offense to nostalgia, but the games of today are definitely much better.

GameCube/PS2/Xbox, followed by the SNES era as a close second. I hate the whole atmosphere of the current generation.

Well N64/PS1 era because thats what I grew up with. Though in all honesty PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era was probably better.

I say the Wii/XBox/360 gen. Because the Wii can play all the Gamecube games, which was IMO the best generation, plus I can play NES/SNES/Genesis/N64/Lots of other system games. I can play all those generations legitimately. Plus there were lot of good games on the PS3/360 and also some on the Wii.

That being said, this generation was the one full of the most bullshit. If I need to elaborate on why, you must be new to gaming.

I had more games for the PS2 than any other console. And while I did love many of my PS1 games, the sheer volume of great stuff on the former means I have to choose it.

Some of the stuff on there like:

SW Battlefront 1 & 2
Timesplitters
War of the Monsters(a personal favourite)

I spent so many hours on you wouldn't believe.

Ah man I suppose if I had to choose I would go for the PS2/GC/Xbox era not because my favourite games are from this time (as a lot arent) but because of the huge amount of good games that were out about this time and widely available of many different genres that are still highly playable today.

Garrrrh...The Dreamcast is in that generation too, god damn it!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_generation_consoles

Also, the Poll doesn't include any of the lesser known consoles. I must stress this, as the lack of knowledge when it comes to retro gaming is huge when it comes to this site. Now, I'm not trying to sound pretentious, but a little research on the matter wouldn't go amiss.

Okay rant over...

Probably the Sixth gen for me too (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast). So much diversity between all four of the consoles. In terms of games, and in terms of experience too. I also own all four as well.

It's just a shame that our current seventh generation of consoles doesn't have this kind of diversity in it, and we have only three console, of which two are incredibly similar to each other.

I'm also pretty enamoured with the Four, and Fifth gens as well. The forth was when gaming came of age, and delivered us great games from all platforms (SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive/Mega-CD/32X, Neo-Geo AES/CD, Turbografx-16).

I also like the fifth gen (3DO, Jaguar/Jag CD, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Saturn) which moved gaming to the 3-Dimension, and gave us a more well rounded gaming experience. Even though the graphics look like turd nowadays.

I'm gonna say that overall, this generation has the highest number of games I like compared to games I don't like.

Can't beat Gamecube/Xbox Era.
Fable, Halo:CE, LoZ, Oddworld, KOTOR (though I found to like it supremely on the PC), Battlefront...

Ah.. good times.
