Games just keep getting better.
Pretty silly statement.

Which was better? Deus Ex or Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

First 4 Monkey Islands/ Grim Fandango/ The Longest Journey/ Syberia or those lame newfangled episodic adventure games (Sam & Max / telltale games' Monkey Island)?

Morrowind or Oblivion? (Omitting Skyrim here because bias)

World of Warcraft or pretty much every AAA MMO since, except The Secret World and maybe Guild Wars 2 (we'll see)

Half-Life / Half-Life 2 or one of the newer 3PS/ FPS shooters like Gears of War 1&2

Aaaaaanyway, on topic, N64 was the best console (and the last one I liked) so I'll go with that generation.

If a console's interface, controls, etc. isn't comparable to PC gaming in terms of what you can do with it, it does not have birthright, so 95% of the consoles in the poll should never have existed. Except those that came out before PCs got good, and the N64, which actually had a good number of buttons on the controller and the most ergonomic one at that.
I'll see your Half-Life and raise you a BioShock, I'll take that Morrowind and give you Skyrim (omitting is pointless because it's still there), I'll snatch that Deus Ex and hand you a Mass Effect.

Games aren't getting worse. Doesn't mean that they're SUPERIOR, but you know... baby steps.

Got to be this generation, has a plentiful share of good games by itself, and also has the ability to download and play many of the games of the previous generations.

I'd have to go with N64/PS1 generation. So many good memories and it's right when I really got into games. I don't care what the internet says though, I'd still include the Dreamcast within that generation, too. For example, Tony Hawk 2 was on N64, Dreamcast, and PS1 with the best version being the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast didn't get Pro Skater 3. Another title, Shadowman came out for PS1, Dreamcast, and N64, but not PS2.

That'd be a hard one to answer.
Probably either the PS2 gen, or this gen (or, if I'm allowed to - the future gen).
Sure, the PS2 had a vast array of good games, but it had a fair few bad ones too, just because it had a huuuuuge selection of games in general. I don't know of any other console that's had as many games developed for it (aside from the PC, of course) - I think they're still developing games for it, might be wrong though.

As good as the PS2 gen is though, it is starting to show it's age. So for really good games: PS2. For good games (Technically): Current/future. For nostalgia: SNES.

Dreamcast was 128-bit, the same as the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox.

The fifth gen was the 32 bit and 64 bit era. While the forth was 16-bit. A generation is determined by time, technical specs, and innovations.

Having Dreamcast in the fifth gen would mean it's with the Saturn, which makes no logical sense, as the Dreamcast is far closer to the PS2 than the Saturn.

Also, would you consider the 3DO in the forth gen because it came out two years before the Playstation? In 1993 when the 16-Bit SNES was considered brand new.

The Dreamcast was ahead of it's time that's all. Sega pushed out the next gen before sony did, and I'm starting to believe because of this fact, some people like you don't consider it Sixth gen. Which is understandable, because the Dreamcast got the cold shoulder in it's short lifespan, and it was on life support by the time the PS2 arrived on the scene, but then again so was the 3do and Jag when the Playstation arrived.

No scratch that, the 3do and Jag were practically dead when the Playstation arrived. At least Sega was releasing games for it after the PS2 arrived for a short while.

N64/PS1 for the sole reason that I had the most fun with the games from that time for multiple reasons.

Seriously, most of my favorite games came out during this period. Great stuff.

All thought i hate Motion Sensors and get frustrated with the way game development seems to have become more formulaic I still have to say its 7th gen all the way for me. Yes i have nostalga for the past but overall im having more fun with this generation than those before and thats the real test for me.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is still one of my favorite games to play. That along with the fact that the PS2 was the first console I owned, and the sheer volume of games that came out for it. Also, pricing worked better on the PS2. I remember looking at a $40 game as high-end. Now, with nearly every title at $60, I can't afford to have the library I did during the last gen.

This is actually kind of tough.
My first console was the N64 and I have more favorites on the N64 than any other console, but I also played Gamecube a whole lot.
So I think I'll choose N64, because I still get a little itch in my gamer gland that says "hey, you should play Ogre Battle 64 again!" or "Why not beat the Poke Cup? Remember how challenging that was?" Fucking rental pokemon...

Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 for me, simply because most of my childhood was spent playing games of this time. Paper Mario 2, Soul Calibur 2, Yu-gi-oh: The Falsebound Kingdom, Viewtiful Joe, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, etc. were all my babies when I was little. :D

Childhood!?

That's crazy to think, those consoles came out when I was a teen, and I'm sure there are people around here that saw their release in their twenties (but I called them old men...only joking guys!).

Sometimes I feel like topping myself knowing that there are people here who had the first Halo as their first game. God, I shudder at that very thought. No Golden Axe, No Tomb Raider, No Ocarina of time, no wonder why you teens go out and smash up phone boxes for fun, if you had none of these games in your childhood.

Back in the day the PS2/Gamecube combination was pretty hard to beat! so I vote that.

Obviously todays consoles and games are better but for the generation I've had the most fun with its got to be last gen.

Sixth Gen (PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/Dreamcast), with Fourth Gen (SNES/MegaDrive/TurboGrafx/NeoGeo) a close second.

The PS2's massive library was mostly great games, Dreamcast was a great console, Xbox and Gamecube had very respectable libraries of they're own. Sixth gen is a cut above the rest. And the SNES was just awesome on it's own, with the MegaDrive also being impressive, so Fourth gen is my second.

Finally someone who acknowledges the Dreamcast as Sixth gen.

See, I'm not crazy...

...

I'll get back to you guys on that one.

Nostalgia is a weakness! the next generation will always be better than the one before!
