That list is so very incomplete. Luckily, you saved me some time because I didn't have to choose between RPGs, platformers, and action-adventure

RPGs rule! I really like a game with deep story. Gameplay comes second.

A tie between RPG and survival horror (but not listed! D: ). I like them both and majority of my games fit into these categories.

My first choice is FPS, hands down - but 2nd will always be RPG. FPS helps out when you have a really bad day. xD

Of all genres, Metroidvania, come to think of it. I love the adventure-game style exploration and item-finding along with the trill of side-scrolling combat with said items, not to mention using said items to explore further. Other favorites are (action-)adventure, side-scrollers, RPG's (Japanese or western, some preference to the former), and some FPS's (i.e no interest in Resistance, find Halo fun, love Half Life 2), with me getting into TBS thanks to Valkyria Chronicles and Fire Emblem, and the possibility of me being a stealth fan.

Basically, my current enjoyment of God of War is a very unusual occurrence.
Fire Emblem is an SRPG, not TBS. There's a difference.
Just edited my post as Valkyria Chronicles is also an SRPG, and considering that I'm not too fond of Advance Wars, that's what I really meant.

I really enjoyed the Action Adventure games back in the day of Banjo-Kazooie. I vote that even though it is not a choice.

I'd say strategy games in general. Real-time, turn-based, micromanagement, macromanagement, I love them all. But since RTS is the strategy genre up there I chose that.

RPG and Turn Based Strategy, the thinking man's genres.
Don't go killing the genre by saying that TBS is for thinking people.

Don't worry folks, even if your IQ is lower than 130 you can play TBS as well. It's not an elitist genre. Honest. In fact it is less elitist than a lot of high end RTS games.
Actually TBS is generally more of a "thinking man's genre" as Rodyle2 put it then RTS. Generally, but not all the time. Still some RTS are dominated not by the people with the best strategies but by the people who can click the fastest (like Starcraft). TBS doesn't give the most twitchest person the edge over everyone else, instead everyone has to figure out the best strategy to come out top. That being said not all RTS are based on twitch-factor alone. They are strategy games after all, not "See who can click the fastest" games.

Without the choice of Survival Horror or Action/Adventure, I'll have to go with Stealth. It kinda embodies Action/adventure along with a little survival anyway, so it works.

Like I said, I think that it very much depends on the game and how it is played. There are plenty of turn based titles out there that are very poor strategy games and real time games that need a lot of thought.

I don't like Starcraft much but I am prepared to admit that the players do need strategy as well as a lot of practice and quick thinking, meaning that the bar stopping people enjoying a proper game can be very high in my opinion. I do prefer turn based games as they give you more time to think and because you have more time to think the designers can add things that just would not work in a real time game.
