Cartoon mascot, 'cos I grew up with guys like Wario, Sonic, and Crash, and it is their appealing appearances and characteristics that got me into gaming.

Floating hand with gun for me, I played a crap load of Doom on the Super Nintendo as a kid and I felt quite attached to that hand, using it to kill just about anything I saw...

Good times, really have to go back and play more Doom, the 360 version is pretty good.
Doomguy is a character though. With the strange and unique trait that he can gaze into his own face seemingly without a mirror and not get distracted.

The protagonist from Doom 3, now *there's* a generic protagonist.

cartoon mascot, I was a born in the early 90's so I grew up on spyro, crash bandicoot, ape escape, bugs and taz: time busters, and Croc: Legend of the gobbos (WHY SONY, WHY WON'T YOU RERELEASE THE GREATNESS THAT WAS BUGS AND TAZ OR CROC? T_T)

so yeah, cartoon mascot is my favorite, his games are always fun and nostalgic

Does "The Knight" count? Like in Dark Souls or Castle Crashers?

There's something awesome about stoically going about your quest in a helmet you can barely breath or see in.
Added an option for fantasy type fellows which includes knight.
We are now out of spaces for new poll options.

I have a thing for floating hands.

Sometimes they do have legs too tho, do they still count?

Though I don't get it very often, I'm quite partial to my self-created female badasses with bitchin' mohawks. That may not qualify as generic, but it's my personal generic when I play those types of games. ;)

What games besides Fallout allow for that?

Almost any game where you can mod character models. ;) Saints Row 3 and 4, Skyrim, and others that I'm drawing a complete blank on at the moment (I'm on the first episode of the last season of Breaking Bad, so my brain's functioning is split.)

I also know you can get them for Mass Effect 3, but I've never played any of the ME series and so that doesn't count in my case.

Hmmm... It's a toss between "Cartoon Mascot" or "Japanime Character" because of either all of the colors that could come from it, the imagination that could come from it, or because that could technically describe the games I would more or less be into playing the most overall...

Honorable mention to "Car" because, sometimes, I just like to drive[footnote]*puts on shades*[/footnote] too fast and too furious, baby!
