Poll: Favorite Iconic Armor

Nano suit. I'm all for practical and the Nano suit is nothing if not practical. Why is the HEV suit orange? isn't that like painting a giant bullseye on your back? Same is true for Samus, the other ones are too big and bulky, the only one which also makes sense is the Halo-suit, but that doesn't turn invisible.

It can turn invisible, if you have the right armour ability equipped, and the strength and armour stuff come built-in. And though this isn't really demonstrated in the games, it can certainly manage speed as well; the Chief's highest known speed is 50MPH, though he did strain a few muscles getting there.

And the HEV suit's orange because, for a suit intended to be used by research teams working with dangerous compounds or in hazardous environments (hence Hazardous Environment suit), being extremely visible is an advantage, rather than a disadvantage; you want your fellow researchers to be able to spot you easily, so they can render assistance should you encounter trouble.

correct me if i'm wrong..but i swore i remember reading that kelly, the fastest spartan, got roughly up to 60~64 mph?

i can't remember exactly, haven't read in a while, but i swore she booked it to that pace at least once in the book(s).

I haven't seen any exact figures for Kelly's top speed but, as you said, she is the fastest Spartan, so I'd assume it has to be significantly higher than the Chief's 50MPH.

huh..technically chief did go the fastest..he went 105 kph (65 mph) during the training exercises for the mark V armor, while in the ghosts of onyx it only ever records kelly going 62 kph (i switched up the units for her),

which is a bit of a conundrum..considering they always said she was the fastest, so i'm assuming if chief reached about 65 mph, i'm sure she could've at least reached 70-75

I would say the Nanosuit 2.0, I like it for the same reason as the OP.

Though the MJOLNIR is actually much more realistic, or I should say, is much more grounded in reality.

Out that list, I'd have to say the Winterized T-51b. Also, the N7 armor is just bloody generic power armor, I don't know why you have that on there.

MJOLNIR Armor. Why? Because it does everything it needs while still being awesome. The Nanosuit comes second.

Technically it hasn't been said before. Imperial Tactical Dreadnought armour. This stuff is like Space Marine powered armour on steroids. It's fully sealed, has enough scanners and sensors to make an observation post jealous, it has an inbuilt life support system, it allows it's wearer to fire weapons normally found on tanks and this thing can take an anti-tank missile and protect it's occupant from any damage.

This stuff basically turns it's wearer into a walking heavy tank. And that's just the base model...

Dreadnought Armor and Terminator Armor are different.

I would say Dreadnought Armor wins this, since you don't have to be alive to rape ass with it. (Literally, they house caskets/coffins that wire the body to a neural system and inject the body with stimulants to allow the brain to continue to function.)

The escapist ate your poll, but instead of the t51-b, I'm going with the t45-d. It just looks cooler, and it's right off the front of the box, so it's probably more recognizable.

I was debating with myself about which one to include. The T45d as it's obviously more visually iconic, since it was plastered all over the covers and posters of FO3... but went ahead with T51b since it was the one Brotherhood of Steel used throughout FO1 and FO2.

Trust me, it was a tough decision not to include the Enclave Tesla Armor, the NCR Ranger armor and the Midwestern Power Armor.

I'm not exactly familiar with the Metroid franchise (being an exclusive PC gamer), so I wouldn't know. Anyway, changed it in the OP, thanks for the heads up.

And yes, Samus' armor looks rather cool.

Mine would be the T51-b Power Armour. But I must admit, even though I have never played a Crysis game the nanosuit does look pretty good, the best looking on the list anyway.

I haven't even played crysis but I do think that it's a very interesting design.

Funnily enough, one of the major reasons why I decided to try out Crysis is because the armor looked so awesome (not to mentions the functions seemed to be interesting as well). So you're not the only ones here.

If you like FPS titles, give Crysis a go. It's a fairly unique well-designed game.

the nano-suit cannot survive falls of more than about 2 floors unless you impact something to dampen the fall, cannot take punches to the face ( from normal people ) small arms fire and is eaten alive by sniper and hmg rounds and is crippled entirely by tazers because the electrical impulses that control it constrict the microfibres and crush the occupier

Agreed. But I hope that Crytek doesn't turn the nanosuit into a tank for the next game. The fact is, because you're rather weak most of the time, the different modes seem all the more satisfying as it juxtaposes your vulnerability against the armor/stealth/strength modes rather nicely.

As much as I love Half Life, I can't choose it as being "Iconic" mainly because most of the time you don't actually see the armour.

Gordon Freeman is considered an iconic silent protagonist, and he doesn't even have a full 3D mesh in the game.

The OP picked a bunch of armours from sci fi games that all looked much the same. If this was a poll, I'd like to see some fantasy knight armour in there as well at least.

Sorry, I meant this thread to be based on a more, 'sci-fi' armor thread. Medieval armors deserve their own separate thread. Maybe a 'fantasy armor' poll in the future?

Tactical Dreadnought armour and Dreadnought armour are 2 completely different things.

The former is a scaled down version of the later, to such a degree that it is roughly man sized and is used almost exclusively by Terminator squads. (hence the nickname Terminator armour. Hint: Terminator armour = Tactical Dreadnought armour)

The latter are the giant coffin/mechs that house the bodies of crippled Space Marines.
