Is this based on personality? or mechanics?
Either way my answer doesn't change it's Tali.

I absolutely love her in every conceivable way, and she's by far the most useful character in the game.
Yes I probably should have phrased it more clearly, but either can be used to justify your answer. I had intentionally left the question vague because some people value mechanics over personality and vice versa; I didn't want to restrict responses.

I would disagree, she is the most useful against the Geth but after that, bring her with you on earth on insanity and you are asking for trouble.
Oh, you my friend are wrong about that.
I brought Tali with me on every Insanity mission.

Her two Drones and Shield Drain make her perfect in any situation.

I never touched James or Garrus. Or Javik, in fact I even forgot about him.
It was Liara and EDI, then it was Liara and Tali.

Have you ever tried to kill a Banshee with out a combat drone? It's fucking hard.

Garrus is just my space bro. Nothing you can do to separate me and him. Add to that him with a Black Widow, and me Charging every 1.5 seconds or so, and whoever we faced never stood a chance. There was this one time where I charged an engineer and its turret began to shoot me, but space bro Garrus sniped that turret and I went on to charge another day!
So... Garrus.

Either Garrus or Javik were my favorite. Garrus because he's fucking Garrus, and Javik because his character was rather intriguing for me. I'm a fan of the whole "sole survivor trying to pick up the pieces" thing, and Javik's story resonated with me.

Garrus all the way. I really loved how they upped the friendship between Garrus and MaleShep throughout the games. They really have gone through hell and back [footnote]And since I used him exclusively in all 3 games, it even made sense storywise[/footnote], so it would be unrealistic for them not to be buds

I cant choose between Liara and Garrus. I used them pretty much the whole game. Garrus hit them from range, Liara was for up close and I was the midrange. It was awesome.

Javik. The conversations felt deeper, and he came with cheat mode in rifle form.
I liked him more then I thought I would. He has a much different view of everything else witch is kind of cool. Plus some of his Wrex/Wreav dialogue is funny.
I found Javik to be a complete and total dick. Seriously, he is the only other squad mate I wanted to legitimately KILL. Him and Jack can die in a fire and I'd prance around singing songs.

Liara, despite being a massive developer's pet, was also my favorite of the ME3 squad members. I really liked Garrus in the first game, but Thane and Mordin upstaged him badly in ME2 and I couldn't help but compare him to them.
{And considering their death scenes in ME3 were that great, it makes it even harder to think of him as a great character. I still don't get why BioWare wanted us to care about some random kid's death instead of the heroic sacrifices of beloved ex-squadmates like those two. Mordin's paragon sacrifice in particular was IMO the best scene in the series, and conclusive proof that BioWare could have made a really awesome scene where Shepard dies and simply chose not to.}

Really wished I could gaymance Garrus. When Mass Effect finnally allowed gay romances I had a choice of Kaiden "Personality of a wood block" and a guy who is still morning his recently dead husband...yeah.

Garrus has the best battle chatter and a good selection of abilities, and just kills with a sniper rifle.

Plus his voice is really sexy.

In my play through (Male Shepard Infiltrator paragon)it worked like this (in my order of favorites).

Garrus: My Home-Turian
Tali: My Lady
Liara: That woman you slept with once, managed to become friends with, but there's still a little tension there.
Javik: My Unfrozen caveman murder machine
James: My Meatshield / trainee
Kaiden: A ham sandwich I forgot I made four hours ago, rediscover, and quickly remember why I didn't eat it in the first place.
EDI: My laptop?

Shout out:
Mordin: I cried when he started singing.
Legion: He became a real boy (before sacrificing himself to make all Geth real boys) making me cry in process.
Jack: She grew up and finally became interesting.
Grunt: Him walking out of that Rachni cave was a crowning moment of bad ass.
Kasumi: The only person I'd be cool with calling me Shep... ever.

Time out:
Jacob: Still not interesting... at all.
Miranda: Yes, you look good in that unitard thing, but I don't find you interesting.
Samara: Going from rigid Lawful Good to Lawful Stupid.
Zaeed: Don't like you, never will.

Is it just me or does no one stand a chance against Garrus in the polls. I know he's awesome but the others are too. Like Liara, Tali, Legion, and... Nevermind go Garrus!!

Edi was hilarious, I thought.
Jack improved quite a bit, but I can see Why Garrus is taking the lead. He's just your main man.

edit: ah, you mean effectiveness. Tali was surprisingly handy; I hardly used her in ME2.

Its a toss up between Garrus and Kaiden for me.

I find I prefer Garrus when playing a Renegade Shep and Kaiden when playing a Paragon Shep.

Garrus gets points for being generally well written and the best "Bromance" character (and bonus points for his reach).
While Kaiden gets points for being a Sentinel and therefore useful in any given situation.

Got Barriers/Armour? Reave.
Got Shields? Overload.
Got nothing? Neural Shock/Cryo Blast.

I couldn't decide. I like both too much.

Gah, this is hard. Garrus, Tali, Tali, Garrus, Javik, Garrus, Tali... I think I'm going to go with Garrus.

I absolutely adored Javik. He was so interesting to me. He and that rifle of his tore up, as well. His scene on the Citadel was very fun.

Garrus was great, of course. Never liked Tali. Liara was awesome in a fight, and so was James. I've always liked Kaidan. EDI was . . . Eh.

I just loved Garrus. I laughed hard several times when you asked Victus where he was and he said he was in the middle of calibrations. It was halarious. Also Tali was good too, still can't beleive we can't see quarians faces! GOD DAMN IT. Especially since this is the last game. AS if the ending wasn't disappointing. Never said it was bad just disappointing and annoying.

But i chose Garrus, he's jus the guy you go to have a drink and shit.

I always went around with EDI and Javik, as they often had a different take on things. Javik inspired the best reactions, so he was my favorite.

Honestly, I've never taken much of a shine to Garrus. Always felt like they were trying way too hard to make him cool. It was funny having my FemShep hit on him, because he instantly turned into a total dweeb. It did make an awkward conversation in the third game when I decided to make time with my lesbian assistant.
