Metal. It was my first love, it'll be my last. I'm into plenty other genres, but none so much as metal.

Yeah, I love metal, and I hope you click on some youtube links and find some you like from all that above as well.
Goddamn you! I have midterms to study for and instead I've had to spend an entire day listening to those songs and downloading the bands. So damn you to hell you amazing Metal Fan!

For my thought: rock and metal, Amon Amarth, Rammstein, Manowar, Hammerfall, and Sonata Arctica... Also Ancient Bards

I like all kinds of music, a good melody is all that matters to me. And even if there are some styles that have a standard I don't like, I reckon there would be a way to still make it great.

I probably listen to rock more than any thing, but I also listen to a lot of jazz and classical music as well. Actually, if progressive rock is not grouped with rock/metal, that's possibly the one I listen to most.

The music I tend to listen to the most would be alternative "drug-rock". The best examples I can think of would be Modest Mouse or Morning Teleportation.

My favorite would have to be folk-blues rock such as Ben Caplan, Edward Sharpe, or some Black Keys.

Oh, wow.

Now, while I have to admit that I did not click on every entry of yours (yet), I wonder if you've already seen/heard/experienced this little gem here:

<youtube=kBo7crSdQqM>

We only stumbled over this the other day, and I still find it to be rather... fresh. Enjoy.
That was awesome. Never heard of those guys before, but they'll be going on my list to look for. Cheers!

A day of metal is a healthy break from midterms... sort of. Ish. Maybe.

Also, I can't believe I missed Manowar and Hammerfall from my list. Amazing bands, good shout.

There's three problems with metal, for me: one, I, ironically, generally loathe the use of electric guitars - can't stand the way they sound - this also generally means I don't care for rock, but not always; two, I almost always dislike the way vocals are sung in metal if there are any; three, I find that there's generally either way too much going on in metal or one thing overpowers the rest, (generally the electric guitar if the latter). Industrial, depending on the artist in question, sometimes also have these same traits, but it depends.

Haven't listened too much to Suicide Commando, though I'm sure I've heard at least a few songs, judging by the ridiculous amount of compilation albums I have.
I love growled vocals when they're done well, but they are an aquired taste. Most of the Industrial bands I listen to use harsh vocals, such as Psyclon Nine, Hocico, Combichrist, Suicide Commando, Terrofrequenz, Aesthetic Perfection, God Module, C-lekktor, FGFC820, Amduscia, Asphyxia and Grendel.

I think I know a few bands you might like...

You have at least one of those right, haha, (though honestly, I haven't cored VNV Nation's latest three albums - Judgement had great sounds, including vocals, but crappy lyrics; Of Faith, Power, and Glory had remarkably poor sounding instrumentals, but a good direction with them and good lyrics/vocals; and Automatic had poor lyrics, weaker vocal work, extremely well done instrumentals, but not instrumentals I actually liked). BlutEngel has always struck me as kind of bad...but I'd probably really like Solitary Experiments if the singer had a different voice...that's just a case of not being compatible with it, sadly. :(

Wow, just saw the results of the first poll I made, and it seems to me that so many people like metal and rock (neither of them I like fondly or hate) and barely anyone choose jazz and hip hop (both of them are my fav). I would also say that I like electronic music, but my opinions should not bias anyone. This is only my opinion.

Well I'll repost myself from another thread:

I'll just drop my Top 5 albums of all time (in no particular order):

I count one Classical, one Rock/Pop/Alt, one Latin, and two Hip-Hop (one is instrumental Hip-Hop, but let's not quibble).

I guess on balance Hip-Hop wins the vote, making me one of two to cast that vote. Well.

No, feel free, I'm more of a violinist and I cheat when reading the alto clef, it's my sister who's the viola player. If it's suitably funny/insulting, I may even pass it on to her! XD
I was just gonna make a smart ass comment that of course she's sight reading it right before the concert since Viola music is so easy anyone can play it right away. :p

Y'welcome! :) Maxim Vengerov's a brilliant violinist, though he can be a little too forceful at times.

Thinking of transcriptions of organ music, have you played the Passacaglia and Fugue in C-minor (Stokowski) for the orchestra? The arrangement is nothing short of genius. I think it's even better than Stokowski's transcription for the Toccata & Fugue in D-minor... -_-
I've never heard of him to be honest, but I will definitely have to check more of his stuff out.

I have not. I always get a little worried when organ music gets transposed to an orchestra.

Pssh! She already knows that, s'why she plays the viola! She's lazy! XD

He's pretty famous, though he's more well known in the UK/Poland than anywhere else, and there was a time when he specialised in baroque violin renditions.

Admittedly, not the best version around, but one of the better ones on youtube... :/

Yeah... I've got a better recording when Stokowski performed it with the Philadelphia Symph... and I tried to find the 2001 BBC Last Night of the Proms conducted by Leonard Slatkin, but no luck... -_-

EDIT:

Though the tempo does lurch a bit as the theme builds...

I mostly listen to Bluegrass music such as Alison Krauss and Union Station, Punch Brothers, Newgrass Revival and the sadly departed Cadillac Sky (RIP). However the true love of my life is the UK Folk revival with acts like Mumford and Sons, Johnny FLynn and the Sussex Wit, Laura Marling, Bear's Den and Ben Howard. Falling outside pf those tw genres are Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, a Bluegrass, funk, jazz, fusion... thing including the best banjo player, bassist and percussionist in the world, The Carolina Chocolate drops, an American Folk/Jug band and Old Crow Medicine Show, a Rotts/Country/Bluegrass band who are fucking AMAZING!

The Viola section: Where failed Violinists go and play. :D

Now I feel terrible for not hearing about him. I must rectify this at once.

Holy shit that's amazing!

The last few minutes are brilliant and really transferred over beautifully. I've heard some organ to orchestra pieces and they were decent. That was just candy to my ears.

The tempo did lurch, but I'm okay with that if it does the build up justice, and it did. I will say it's not a sloppy tempo change, but it's not the worst I've ever heard.

What happens to failed soloists? They become concertmasters.
What if they're still not good enough? They become regular first violinists.
But what if there're too many? They become second violinists.
And if it's too hard? They become violists! XD

Holy shit that's amazing!
Right?! Riiiiiight?! :D

Likewise... while I still do prefer the organ version, Stokowski's transcription is brilliance (no other real way to describe it).

Oh here's another question, since we're both Bach fanboy(s)/girl(s): harpsichord or piano?

Only ask because I'm listening to this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R66fz9yxzAk]. Heard it on both instruments and marginally prefer it on the harpsichord. On the other hand, this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5wd5jzQol8], and indeed all the English Suites, sound so much nicer on the harpsichord.

Oooohh thats hard. For me its definitely either Country or Metal, but I can't really decide. Yes I know its a really weird combo but I'm from Georgia so it happens.
Not really weird, I'm in the 'Rock/Metal/Country' with an extremely light sprinkling of pop, cause Mom got me into P!nk and Maroon 5, and yes, I've got a mixed CD with all those in it.

We're big on 'Musical Whiplash' in my house :D

Hmm...

I prefer it on the harpsichord only because it's a Baroque piece and it's a Baroque instrument. That's not to say it can't sound just as good on the piano, and I like the piano despite not being able to play it.

I just think the harpsichord can handle the ornamentation better than the piano can just because of how the piano is built compared to the harpsichord.
