You know what the thread is about. I happen to like the Shooter RPGs more because, well...I'm a big FPS player and I like the skill tree, the quest and the Inventory system. (Yes one of the main reasons I buy a game is determined by the inventory system)

Seeing as Oblivion is my favourite RPG ever, I'm going to say action.
I like turn based strategy too, though.

I also Like the old turn based Final Fantasy games. I loved the random battles and wont buy another FF until they are re-implemented.
You might be waiting a while, then. Random battles aren't going to be brought back in now that they've gotten better at implementing battles into the environment.

Besides, random battles take away a lot of the strategy in the game.

Anything, unless it's solid, old, boring turn-based combat.

Fine by me. FF has been getting steadily worse since the leap to the PS2.
In your opinion, you mean.

I quite liked FFXII. It's gameplay was brilliant, though the story wasn't great.
And X is the exact opposite - the story's amazing, but I don't like the feel of the game much.
VII's still my favourite, though. =]

Yeah, that type's the best!

The ones that don't involve computers tend to take preference over the ones that do for me.

Seriously? No love for the Fire Elblem or Warcraft type games? I'm just going to say right now that I hate Turn based RPGs and World of Warcraft type games because of the repeditive grind. Some of my friends found having to level up their Pokemon so boring that they used a trick where their character would just keep walking into somthing that would push their character back so that the Pokemon in the daycare would level up, but with them only getting 1 exp per step they would just tape a battery or somthing to the control pad so they wouldn't have to hold down the control pad themselves.

Thanks I almost forgot Castelvania! What can I do to repay you? Have any vampires that need slaying?

I can think of at least one game in each category that I like.

Anyway, these are all combat aspects in a genre that is supposed to be about the story. Thats like getting a car because it has nice cup holders. Sure, its got nice cup holders, but you're kind of missing the point.

It depends on the game. For the most part, I prefer Real-time battles like in the Tales series (Symphonia, The Abyss, Vesperia), but I can do turn based when I'm playing Persona 3 and 4. Recently, though, I've been really enjoying the shooter type. Mass Effect is one of my all-time favorite games, and Fallout 3 is really good too. I still have yet to play Borderlands, though.

Shooter followed by action assuming they can pull the swordplay off right. One of the best games for that style in my mind is Dark Messiah.

I voted turned based with rpg bits, but not for fire emblem like games. I like X-com like games and a few others like it. My favorite were the old DnD style RPGs where you created your 6 characters and in combat you got to move in them in a turned based combat.

To be honest I don't really care about what style. My main focus is story. Most any style or form I can adapt to if the story is good enough.
