Recently, games have been making me very happy by giving me fun ways of traveling around. Just Cause 2 had the awesome grappling hook + parachute combo PLUS cars and boats and motorcycles and helicopters and jets; inFamous 2 has induction grinding, static thrusters to glide, an electric grappling hook, and an ice jump/fire glinding; Batman: Arkham City is making it easier for Batman to grapple and glide; and of course who could forget ye olde Spiderman 2 with its web-slinging and wall-running.

So I ask you, fellow escapists, what's your favorite way of getting around in-game?

I went for grapple + glide as that is just cause 2's method, and it was the most fun i've had travelling around a world.

How about rolling? Man that would piss off an old roommate of mine to see Link just roll his way through Hyrule. Or jumping? I could never run in WoW or any of the 1st person Bethesda games without just jumping every few feet.

Rolling is always fun! I made Old Snake throw up so many times from rolling in his metal barrel. In WoW I can't stop jumping either. Hippity hoppity into battle, hippity hoppity drawing aggro...

One of the things that I really liked about Prototype was the movement system. You could air-dash short distances, but also use that speed for gliding long distances. It really helped the sandbox open up feel more free :D

Now that I think about it, I might have started doing this in Goldeneye. I was the worst shot in the world in that game, but won quite often because of the spastic movement style I developed.

Sadly in WoW I could not jump while in combat. Holy Pallies need to stand around to get spells off. Lame.

i forgot which one it was, it might have been web of shadows, but there was one spider man game that got the physics part of the web slinging PERFECT, it was amazing flinging around the city with momentum around corners (and they didn't randomly have webs flying into the sky, if there wasn't a tall building around your ass was falling to the depths below)

I always wanted to try Prototype for its awesome looking movement system, but never did. Couldn't you run up walls too? I might wait and get Prototype 2 when it comes out.

Grappling hooks are awesome. Parkour's pretty sweet too.
Naturally, Parkour + Grappling hook is pure awesomesauce.

Everybody knows that if you can roll it's pretty much required that it be your main mode of transportation.

Free running/parkour has always been my favorite, running around on top of buildings on Assassin's Creed has always been fun. inFAMOUS does a good job of it too, especially with adding powers into the mix.

You are correct about the wall running. Prototype is one of my favorite sandbox games of all time, up there with Spiderman 2 (yes, I completely agree with Yahtzee) :D

Constant driving in freeroaming games gets annoying. I honestly wish LA Noire never let you drive, and just gave you a map of choices on where to go. If you're at a random streetcorner, there is nothing you can do except go to a destination. (whereas in GTA4 you could nab a car and have a shootout with police)

Spiderman 2, Just Cause 2, both had some really superhuman ways of transportation that I loved. Anything unusual seems to work. Also, Unreal Tournament 3 gave you the hoverboard, which you could latch onto team vehicles and follow them around.

52%, including me, says that, because who wouldn't enjoy getting around by grappling to an airliner and riding it over a mountain - WHILE STANDING ON THE ROOF)
