Poll: Favorite Weapon for the Protagonist?

I rarely play the protagonist in games when given the choice but I have to say that the alien weapons especially the sucker from the Half-life one expansion were fun.
Nothing puts the point across like using your opponents weapon against them, especially if the only apparent way to fire that weapon was the shove your fist up the relative aliens bum in order to fire it.
Fantasy wise magic beats weapons usually, that or have someone else do your dirty work for you.

I should specify when I say swords that my absolute favorite out of swords would be lightsabers, or beam sabers (in Megaman X series games) or beam katana (a la no more heroes).

I grew up on star wars and I have to say, I can never get enough laser swords, because the #2 and #3 favorite weapons are swords, and laser guns.. combine those two.. match made in heaven.

It really is a hard one. in most games i prefer a good sniper or long range assault rifle, i try and convince myself it's cos im tactical but it's mostly cos im a big wimp. failing that something big and heavy to tw*t the bad guys over the head with

This is a hard one.
I can't really choose, since it all depends on the protagonist himself.
If I'm playing a sneaky guy, then smaller blades...maybe a sword (Not too big).
If I'm playing a big barbarian, then anything huge. Axe, mace, club, sword, whatever. It must need two hands, though.
If I'm playing a knight, then a one-handed mace or sword.
If I'm playing a mage, then either small blades, small projectiles (Sling or something), or a staff-like weapons (Like a staff).
If I'm playing a monk, then fists all the way. Maybe a staff.

So really, it depends on the character. If I'm playing a sandbox type game, like Oblivion, then it's all how I envision my character. I won't use what's best, I'll use what fits the character.

But maybe that's me.

That's not just you, sometimes I'll pass up a better weapon for something that just looks right. But I ALWAYS like projectiles.

Depends. I sowrd or okay for me I enjoy more original weapons, like hammers, dual small blades, or small firearms, like pistols.

L4D I go dual pistols for maximum fun.

I usually go pistols if I wanna go hollywood on peoples rumps, but when a dont sniping head is the next best thing for me.

What does it do?

it has several modes: one of them shots missiles, one of them is a machine gun and one of them is a vehicle made out of two circles and one of them is covered with missiles....that can be shot out.

I tend to like melee-combat more than projectiles. But it depends on the game, really.
