So, I'm super excited for The Avengers to come out (Avengers Assemble in the UK for some reason...), but I only became a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thing when I went to see Iron Man 2 with my dad. I've watched all of the others since, except The Incredible Hulk. Basically the plan is to sit down with my pop now that I've bought him all of them on blu-ray and have a bit of a catch-up marathon.
SO:
1) Is The Incredible Hulk worth watching? Is it necessary to understanding The Avengers? Does it tie in to the other movies like Iron Man (2), Thor and Captain America managed to do?
2) Which is your favorite of the franchise so far? I'd have to say Captain America. Thor made me laugh so much, but CA is just so inspirational. Also, catchy song!

1) Incredible Hulk is decent. It's not as good as the others but it's not bad. I don't think you need to watch it but I'd still check it out.

2) That's a tough one, cause Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were all awesome. I think I'm gonna go with Cap, but I still love the others.

It's really a toss up between the Iron Man movies and Captain America. They were all good movies.

The Incredible Hulk is badly under-appreciated. It's really VERY good. And yes, it does tie into the universe in a couple of ways.

Thor was pretty good... at least everything that didn't take place on Earth was.

The Incredible Hulk was a terribly bland picture. You'd best just watch the Ang Lee Hulk.

I'm sorry, but Ang Lee's version was way more bland.

OT: Captain America hands down, that was a great movie.

Iron Man 1 was the cleanest movie in terms of characters and story.
We get clear motivations, character arcs, and the action is a result of that rather than being shoe-horned in for the sake of it being a summer blockbuster movie.

But DAMN is Captain America close...

The other entrants didn't feel as clean as those, and I still haven't seen The Incredible Hulk from start to finish, so I can't comment on it.

Captain America is my favorite movie of the bunch, easily. For me, it just holds up WAY better for repeated viewings.

As for the Incredible Hulk, I'd so go for it. It's the "worst" of the Avengers movies, but it's totally worth seeing, and quite good.

Thor had the best soundtrack, IMO. Captain America had the best acting. Iron Man had the best action and humor... Hulk was still good, though it wasn't really the best at anything. And also just because I say one film had the best something doesn't mean I thought that something in the other films was lackluster. Captain America had great humor, Thor had great acting, etc.

If I had to pick, I'd probably go with Iron Man. He's easily my favorite Avenger, and since the Avengers are the only Marvel heroes I actually like (Fuck you, X-men! Spider-man... eh, C-!) it makes him my favorite Marvel hero by default. I really liked the portrayal of him in the movies, and Downey Jr is perfect as Tony. Plus it was the first in the Avengers line, and you gotta give credit to the film that started this all. :p
