Ancient Greece! Sure i'll get conquered by Persians a lot and die 30-40 years old, just love that time period. If I had a choice, though I like having modern technology, i'd miss that.

I freaking love everything that's pretty much pre-Balkan War to the early Cold War (I'd say around 1910 - 1950's). Victorian (namely Steampunk reimaginations) is close enough. That's why I love the second Sherlock Holmes movie, the Bioshock series, and the tons of World War 1/2 games. I simply think it's a cool time period, with lots of snazzy inventions and tropes that aren't entirely obsolete.

No problem! I'm glad I can help!
Had a look see at a few pages, and have just purchased...

Finally remembered that book about the Second Punic War...

It's a trilogy by Ross Leckie that received rather mixed reviews: Hannibal (kinda obvious what this is about); Scipio (again, no prizes for guessing the plot); and Carthage (Third Punic War and probably the most contrived of the three, judging from blurbs, as it's the respective sons who slug it out, when Hannibal had no children and it was Scipio's adopted grandson, but that's just me and my fastidiousness there) -_-

... I don't know why I'm offering a book series I wouldn't recommend!! o_O'

EDIT: LOL... 'missionary = mercenary', maybe you were thinking he was a 'zealot for hire'...

Personally, I'm fond of Feudal Japan, Ancient Egypt, Medieval England... places like that.

American Civil war through right before hippies started appearing I really like learning about. I especially find the Prohibition era interesting for American history. 'World' history-wise I eat it all up If I didn't go into my current job I probably would've been a history professor of some sort.

Lol I probably was!

Anyways, I will have to check those out since they seem pretty interesting and I'm curious to see how they use that as a story. Thanks!

Heh... I'd say you're welcome, but I'm not sure. When I first found out about that series, I was like... "oh shit, this puts a spanner in the works" because for the last few months, I've been writing a series of disjointed scenes set during that war from the POV of a Roman legate.

So, I'm rather dreading reading it (if I finally decide to get it), because of the setting overlap, and apparently, the author used a lot of Latin/Greek verbiage (which I avoided, except terminology).

I find 20th Century to be the most intresting, it's also slightly more relevant.

Huh. That's a rather odd choice to do for a fictional story, and I'll have to keep that in mind if and when I get to read it.

You're writing a story during that war? That's pretty awesome, and I can see why you're dreading reading that series.

20th Century since I'm a literature student and that's when the writers went utterly CRAZY and wrote some truly genius stuff.

That reminds me... I really have to update my blog one of these days. From this project, I think there's only one piece... the Continence of Scipio...

Unfortunately, most of the other scenes I've written are battle scenes... :/ Yeah, I'm a sucker for the military side... though I've lately gotten into the political.

Hmm....sounds really interesting.

Nothing wrong with battle scenes since sometimes those can be the hardest and whatnot. That's a perfect mix of both political and military since the Second Punic Wars had a mix of both, so your story can only benefit from that.

Seeing as I'm doing Classics at uni, I think I'd have to say the Classical Period.

But give me a choice of any time to live it'd be this one...

See this is my problem. When I apply for my Masters I'll have to tighten my scope to a certain region and period. But damn it all I love them all. The more I look into different periods the more I realise they are all awesome. Though since I specialized in 20th century history in my undergrad I guess I'll vote that.
