A good RPG is unbeatable. Taking on the role of another person (who is actually a believable character) is pretty much the pinnacle of escapism.

I personally will have to go with strategy.

Though shooters (or FPS, if you will) have dominated most of my time (starting with the good old Wolfenstein 3d, of which I still have the original floppy) I still do think that RTS is where my heart lies. There's nothing better than to sit down behind your computer, start up Homeworld and dominate space through tactical placement and hoping by god that your research finishes up fast enough.

What would you put GTA/Saints Row/Crackdown under?
/points at name.... again.

They're sandbox games. And yes, they are the best. Around. Nothing's ever gonna keep them down. ^_^

Strategy, in particular turn based. I grew up playing chess, I like time to think.

Platforming games, I suppose. Played those the most and I feel the most happy when I do.
RPGs and FPS's comes in on a close second however.

My favorite Game Genre if ignoring the rest of the post?

Video Games of course. Board games are alright, and pen&paper games can be great if you have a good DM/ST.

Ah yeah, sorry for forgetting "sandbox" in the poll. I didn't even think about that as another genre. Though honestly I couldn't fit any more options in the poll anyway.

It's a tie for me: RPGs and 3D Platformers. Most of my favorite games are RPGs, but 3D Platformers are just so damn easy for me to enjoy.

I don't really like FPS at all, aside from the few that very occasionally win me over (Team Fortress 2 and...well, thats it).

I enjoy sandbox games, but I can't play them often. They're gameplay mechanics are so standardized that I have to space them out heavily, otherwise I just get bored.

Fighters are fun, but I'm profoundly horrible at them (still win-less online in Marvel vs capcom 3, by the way).

I've never really understood what an Adventure game is. I always called the Zelda games (of which 2 are in my top ten all-time favorites) Adventure games, but I see point-and-click games being referred to Adventures more by professionals.

Car simulations like Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo. I'm not too big on arcade racers though... weird.

Back in the day I was really into platforming/action games like Metroid and Castlevania. Platformers lost their lustre for me when they added the 3rd dimension... damn camera controls. Same thing with fighting games, the 3rd dimension ruins them (IMO) so I was a happy man when SFIV released in 2d form.

I was also a stickler for JRPG's, but I simply don't have the time to invest so much into an RPG these days. J or otherwise.

Now it's mainly just car sims and 2d fighters with some FPS garnished with some third person sandbox games and some hack/slash mixed in for good measure.

So pretty much anything that doesn't suck or requires a shit ton of time to play through.

Why is there no Open World option here? Maybe I'm just stubborn, but I think an RPG and an Open World RPG are two different beasts.

An RPG could be anything like Final Fantasy or Dragon Age Origins. Something with a story that you are forced to follow.

An Open World RPG is more like Mount and Blade or anything Bethesda has ever made. Something where you make the story.

I like shooters of (almost) all kinds. I don't really care that most have non-mind blowing stories, or are trying to be uber-realistic, I find them fun to play. Anyway, who doesn't love shooting dudes in the face?

Shooters, it's all I play anymore. I wish there were more games like Fallout though that are shooters and have RPG elements.
