Devin Townsend when he is in a proggy mood is amazing. Also a little known band called Oceansize are pretty cool too.

There's is no King Crimson option, the poll is invalid.
This, more or less. I went with Porcupine Tree/other, as it was the second best option. I'm having trouble seeing how a thread about progressive rock does not include a "King Crimson" option in the poll, however =(

Metallica has never been prog. My favorite is Dream Theatre, because while Tool and Rush got me into the genre, they made me love it.

Just want to point out the Tool, Opeth and Dream Theater are Progressive Metal. You could maaaaaybe argue Dream Theater are Prog Rock, but I really don't think so. As for Metallica, Progressive Rock? They're one of the pioneers of Thrash Metal. I've never heard anyone else refer to them as Prog Metal or Rock.

Anyway, speaking of only Prog Rock, it's Pink Floyd. Of the bands listed, without a doubt Dream Theater.

Rush, probably, followed almost immediately by Pink Floyd.

Best Rush song for me:

My favourite Pink Floyd song is:

Special mention goes to Yes:

Righty O, two things:
NUMBER BLOODY ONE: THERE IS AN "OTHER" OPTION PEOPLE! Use your eyes! Stop telling me "so and so is not on list and there is no 'other' option."
Number Two: I can replace Metallica with KC if you want. At the time I forgot about them when I was writing them. Or I replace Opeth with KC. Your choice people.
Number Three: Progressive covers all, don't be so literal. Prog rock/metal, whatever you prefer. I know there is a difference, but I said "prog" band. I just added (rock) in so people wouldn't give me techno stuff.

I kind of wish PC had it's own category instead of also with "other".

Anyway, Porcupine Tree is my favorite, with Pink Floyd as my second favorite.

Rush is pretty good
Yes is pretty good

Could care less for Dream Theatre and I've tried Opeth, but I just couldn't get into them.

Being Progressive Rock it would be Rush, then Yes, then Pink Floyd. Progressive Metal on the otherhand would be Cynic, then Opeth, then Porcupine Tree, then Ayreon, then Dream Theatre.

That is excluding bands which have proggressive elements but are not either such as Obscura, Death, BTBAM, InMe, Devin Townsend etc.
porcupine tree is not progressive metal at all

Porcupine Tree could also be considered Prog Rock andor Prog Metal as well.

They're really more Prog Rock though.

they have metal elements in some of their albums though. Like, listen to Blackest Eyes or a number of songs off of In Absentia.

Have a soft spot for Genesis, but the vote has to go to Dream Theater (even if they have been treading water a bit on the last few albums). Ayreon also gets a special mention for just being batshit crazy :)

Really? so...

This isnt metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO3GQvye2bQ

or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpus9zJabNg&feature=related

yeah i get what you are saying when you say they arnt metal but yeah when i think of prog rock i think of Yes and Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree are by far heavier then those, I find them closer to Opeth than Floyd (apart from time flies), its also the mood portrayed in their music that seems more metal. Songs like Trains, Time Flies, Lazurus are definatly Prog Rock dont get me wrong but they have always seemed to have that metal edge about them, also because the first time i heard about porcupine tree was in Metal Hammer 4 years ago.

I more like the 80's revival of progressive rock, like journey (Ok more or less progressive rock there, but still enough progressive to be listed as such on their wikipedia page), but of the ones listed Dream theater, no doubt about it
