Favorite Star Wars game franchise for me is The Force Unleashed. The mechanics of it were incredibly fun and satisfying for me. It was one of the first games that made me really feel like a Force wielding badass, and why the Jedi/Sith were truly a terror on the battlefield. [snip]
The story of the first game was pretty decent too. I thought it was a fairly well developed plot, and had some well rounded characters in it. It wasn't the best storytelling I've ever seen, but it was hardly the worst I've experienced. [snip]
I'd love to see more Star Wars games using that physics engine for Force powers. It doesn't have to be about Starkiller, hell they could set it anywhere in the timeline. Just let me wield the Force like a badass and I'll be super happy.
As someone who only recently finished the 1st installment I disagree. Don't get me wrong, I did like it and I would still put it as 1 of the better SW games. But, it got repetitive, it had an outdated upgrade system, an overabundance of QTEs, a silly combo system that doesn't hold a candle to the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series (which it really should have taken a page from and just expanded on its possibilities), ability to grip objects and people but not actually choke them because...I guess Darth Vader wants to be the only guy who does that anymore? You know what really annoyed me about all of that though? The QTEs. Those were, by far, the coolest attacks in the games, regulated to scripted button pushes, button mashes, or button holdings. If the game gave me a way to do those things naturally with the same level of damage or ability to do so near low enemy health I wouldn't criticize it as much anywhere near as much as I do. It was especially egregious pulling down that Star Destroyer; I never felt like the badass I should have doing that. The interruptions from Tie Fighters and clear lack of PC optimized controls - for that sequence more than the game itself - just made it worse.
The story makes no sense. Characters constantly do things that don't make sense. The plot relies on so many crutches like technicalities; plot armor; and plot holes. Starkiller himself is borderline overpowered without proper substantiation - I don't have a problem with that kind of power in SW but the game never justifies well enough to me - in the context of the main universe and even in his own story. It's decent for having atmosphere, OVERALL good voice acting, and good moments throughout I will admit, but I thought the plot was underdeveloped and characters were far from well rounded. Neither of those aspects had to do with the story being decent, but I do agree it was decent; it's just decent for me for different reasons, for balancing out its bad with its good.

Most people will pick KOTOR, but it was always Bioware's weakest/shittiest RPG, from its M. Night Shyamalan twist to its creaky NWN engine to its hilariously binary good/evil dialogue where you could flip flop from hugging grandmas to kicking puppies in the span of a single conversation.
I don't have much in the way of love for the game, but it's so beloved I'm always surprised to see someone else not sing its endless praises.
I second this. I always liked KOTOR but not to the level of outright adoration and seeing the outright adoration never wane much as the years went by and I saw more flaws (I replayed the game a couple times years apart each time) just got more confusing.

Jedi Knight games. Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy especially. In fact I'm replaying them these days and there are still active servers if you're itching for some online Jedi action.
You know, I remember playing Jedi Outcast for the first time, single player. And I recall the final boss fight. The lightsaber combat in that game was interesting, but also kind of funny. It could be brutally swift, which makes sense given the weapons involved.
So I was fighting the final boss, standing on that ledge above him where the cutscene places you. I remember switching to strong saber stance, and popping force speed as I jumped down to begin my epic final battle with this evil person!!......and I killed him in 2 swings of my saber. xD First swing broke his guard, and the second hit swiped through is middle in slow motion victory.
I remember thinking "...." *blink blink* "...no way. NO freaking way. I didn't just one shot the final boss of the game did I?!?" But yep, I did. xD It felt so anticlimactic, but also pretty enjoyable at the same time.
WHAT?!? This makes no sense. I've played that game multiple times over the years. You can cut down normal enemies that fast, but there is no important boss you can cut down that fast. You must have attacked in a very specific way or played on a low difficulty or accidentally had a cheat code on or something. It takes quite a few hits, even in strong style, to take him down.

I'm going to say they're all good. I picked up Episode 3 for the PS2 recently, only played the first level, but even that seemed fun.
The game got mediocre reviews. I think it's underrated. It's 1 of those SW games I go back to now and again.

Ya there are few great games on that list but ultimately I think the Jedi Knight games take the cake because they make you FEEL like a jedi. The RPG ones are great rpgs but there is a disconnect between you and your characters where as in Jedi Knight you are blocking laser beams and force pushing people off cliffs in real time... it's just a very immersive experience.
You managed to sum up why Dark Forces/Jedi Knight is at the top for me and my enjoyment of KOTOR has waned over the years. Bravo sir.

By contrast the Jedi Knight series has a whole collection of great games all fantastic right out of the box and boasting some of the most fun lightsaber combat depicted in a game to date.
Yep, Jedi Knight wins.

The jedi knight series, especially 2, was so good. Going from having to use a terrible blaster and no force powers to going through the jedi temple and re-learning everything was the coolest thing ever when I first played it on the OG Xbox and it held up surprisingly well when I played it again a few years back after getting ti on steam.

I like Jedi Outcast much more than any other game in the SW franchise. It's story was told well and the action was fun.
Look at all the vouching for Dark Forces/Jedi Knight. That's the real cream of the crop here. Take away the nostalgic KOTOR votes and it's #1 in this poll. Loophole!
As for the fluctuating nature of movie licensed games that just depends on whether a movie licensed game gets made under typical, barely try, the brand alone will sell it circumstances or unique, it's gonna be good circumstances. I don't think it's more complicated than that.
