Ahh, 5 of the same answers in a row.
How about something that stops that? A big button that pop up saying "You're the 10th person to say this, shush!"

But srsly, something like this for us lazy bums?

We get a lot of people who don't understand how to do it so it might be easier with a click of a button.
Fucking. Yes. I tire of having to look up the Forum Guide every time I want to remember how to make a text tiny, or the exact proper spelling of the colour that I want for a text.
How hard can it be to code this? (Actually asking, because I have no idea).

A button that you click on a users post that sends someone to their house so they can slap/punch[footnote]You can pick before you confirm you want to do this.[/footnote] them.

So, in a way, like the report button, just a lot more satisfying. :p
You and I are going to have very sore cheeks. Not because we hate each other, just because we think its fun. :p

OT: It isn't something the site desperately needs... I mean it would be kind of cool but most people are nice and would tell you about where you got their avatars.

A feature I would like though would be a better PM system so that you can favorite messages and organize them in your profile so you can bring them up later. I would use that all the time. ^.^

It'd be nice, if reporting a post, to have the option to explain WHY you're reporting it. It'd be nice to be able to use it to request thread mergers or closures or to point out suspected bots, etc, without having to type out a bloody post explaining what's up and then reporting that too.
I agree with this.
A lot of times, my reports don't seem to do anything or get through, and I assume it's because the mod looking at my report doesn't know the reason why I'm reporting it.

Speaking of that, how does a mod know the reason why a post has been reported? What if someone reports a post for advertising, but the mod looking at the report only checks the post for insults?

A better CHAT. That IRC-thing bugs the hell out of me and I never manage to boot it up properly. A chat, easily reached (and noticeable) from the front-page, that isn't IRC.
You seemed to get online just fine yesterday ;D (I'm stalking you now).

OT: I occasionally get PMs asking where my avatars are from. My answers are usually a bit more complicated, 'cause I edit them myself. I don't think it needs it's own section in the profile though.
And what was my very first line uttered?

"Stupid POS Java, first time it actually boots up".

So, hah!
Well, there's your problem. Java's a piece of shit when it comes to IRC! Get yourself a dedicated IRC client like mIRC. I've been using that program for six years now and haven't run into any problems whatsoever.

Wow, individuals with serious tenure are coming out of the woodwork to chime in on this. There are a number of names with an absurdly high post count which I've never seen the likes of.

Without a doubt, they do a better job of sneaking than I do of noticing.

Also, add my vote to the BBcode shortcuts.

tenure

I just got put on probation last week.

I agree with BBcode shortcuts, though.

Mr. Knack, I meant tenure in the sense of a period of time or occupation, not security of position.

On the note of your probation though.....be right back. No seriously, wait there a mite.

Well after looking at your posting history I couldn't find this warning that set you on your probationary period. I did notice a trend of 4chan greentext, some colorful thoughts about emotions and an aversion to robot sex.

You are an odd one, Mr. Knack[footnote]On that note, Escapist needs every warning in the bar to link to the post from whence it came, would make this so much simpler and I wouldn't have to use some inane asterisk verbs to communicate the length of time this task took in a cutesy way.[/footnote]

I've seen this happen before.

Create a thread about post counts, and it will be swarmed by a whole ton of users with insanely high post counts. Users that you never usually see.

For truly transparent moderation, this would be a good idea.

Not only that, but have every warned post also show the mod who warned it, so users can see at a glance if a particular mod is abusing his/her power.

Will never happen. There's a reason that you currently don't get to know which mod wrathed a particular user.

If there is abuse, the staff deals with it (and can see for that reason).

Ah okay, thanks for the info.

I figured it would have to be dealt with somewhere along the chain.

I don't remember what I got it for, I just remember being really annoyed and appealing.

As for the "odd one" comment, thanks! I try. As evidenced by the avatar.

Is tenure code for "too much time on our hands" now?

Because that's certainly what mine means.

OT: I like the BB code shortcuts idea as well, but mostly because I hate typing them out manually.

I also think a mobile version of the site would be useful, but I imagine there's a reason there isn't.

My IRL friend [user]Techie[/user] never uses the forums because he only really posts with his phone and doesn't like how there isn't one.

He pretty much just listens to Miracle of Sound and watches Yahtzee on his Desktop. He last logged in a million or so years ago, though he does lurk from time to time.

Didn't the avatar happen by accident though? :p

I think I remember you saying it uploaded weirdly.

It did. Notice how I'm still using it about a year later.

It normally does link to the post in question, but probations seems to be the exception to that.

You inferred someone was insane, and called them a sourpuss. =P

I know it doesn't seem like much, but it was only cause you've been a naughty boy before! D:

Could do with some bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens.

Seriously, I have no real suggestions - not that this site is perfection, I just don't know how I'd change it.
