It will be nice to see Femshep in the ads. Not for any particular reason, it's just going to be a nice change.

Oh hell to the yes. Jennifer Hale's VA work in this series is consistently amazing. I personally think anyone who hasn't played a FemShep is missing out.

I won't bother to vote though. My Adelaide Shepard is a statuesque black woman with a shaved head. I immensely doubt the chosen character model will be remotely similar to mine. I'm just happy for Hale's work being shown off.

To the interested, some kind soul on YouTube redid the ME2 trailer with a FemShep. And it's here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMAa0DMcRfE#].

How very odd of them. The Cannon Shepard is male, this has been established since he appeared on the cover of the first game. To have some trailers use a female Shepard will only result in inconsistency and confusion.
It's not even like it's a new and amazing feature they're revealing - everybody who's played either of the other two games will know that they can choose Sheperd's gender. And not only that, but the appearance as well. I don't know a single person who has used the default male Shepard.

So yeah... other than to please fans, this doesn't make any sense at all to me.
Nope. Time to break out the proof from BioWare themselves...

There's a marketing Shepard, but not a canon Shepard.

It's true. I would've been ecstatic if BioWare had gone and defied all expectations by giving us an iconic FemShep of an ethnicity other than Caucasian.
But teaspoon by teaspoon, I suppose. It'll probably be a while still before my Zoë [http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww31/FluidVitis/Interactivity/Mass%20Effect/Shepard/ZoShepard01.jpg] or Huyen [http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww31/FluidVitis/Interactivity/Mass%20Effect/Shepard/HuyenShepard01.jpg] gets top billing.

I'm just stoked FemShep will get any official recognition at all...!

Oh, and thank you for that link. I remember watching it the first time around, thinking: "Damn, this is a damn sight better than the official version."
Hale's reading just sells it.

I feel obliged to embed this video, as well, as it is a fairly impressive demonstration of the many disparate FemSheps out there.

!Potential Spoiler Warning!

Thanks for the video - awesome.

I'm super excited for this. It's awesome recognition for not only Hale, by all individuals who enjoy playing FemShep! Nice representation of ladies in games.

Absolutely, and for all the reasons you listed: I also thought Mark Meer-as-Shepard's VA was a little dull, and Jen Hale's performance gave the character a metric ass-ton of badassery while not taking away from her mother-to-her-men persona (as a Paragon, at least), or dampening her inherent charisma.

Jane Shepard's also one of the few female space-commanders that isn't a complete, utter, and thoroughly ineffectual *****. This is a decorated and charismatic woman I'd be happy to take orders from, whereas John Shepard is just one of a hundred grizzled space-marines. A very convincing, complex, and sympathetic grizzled space-marine, but still.

I'm glad Jane and Jen are finally getting the attention they deserve. Now both Shepards just need to shift dimentions and team up to make the most awesome, badass space marine duo that ever blew up Space-Cthulu.

Are you suggesting that Shepard was ever anything but female?

Huh. News to me.

...

Seriously though, I don't particularly mind. They needed someone to stick on the box and in the trailers. Since the vast majority of players will be using the male version, it made a certain degree of sense to use a guy.

Although it is nice to see Jennifer Hale get some recognition. Her voice acting has always been superior in my opinion.

EDIT:

That video wins based solely on the last line.

Best. Ending. Quote. Ever.

It's a gross exaggeration of a non-issue. To me, it wouldn't matter which gender were pushed in the marketing because the ability to pick your gender and customize your personal Shepard is a bigger feature than which avatar placeholding the trailers.

Not only that, but Female Shepard has the best VA and best physical customization options. By comparison, My Male Shepard is a walking glans voiced by Mark Meer. I tried so hard to make him decent looking without resorting to the default, but no dice. Captain Jean Paul Shepard would agree with me and say women got the better end of the deal here.

If they can get Vandersloo to pose as MaleShep, they should get Jennifer Hale to use for Standard FemShep face.

It could work, and it would be better than Bioware asking us to come up with something because their default looked like shit.

Following the announcement that a Shepard of either sex will be allowed to pursue a romantic relationship with a character of his or her own gender [https://twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/status/69833443067969536]
I like that it will be included and I like that Bioware isn't afraid to do what they want with their games no matter who bitches at them, but Man Shepard has never had the option for a same sex romance, I'm afraid that any man on man love that involves Man Shepard is going to feel shoe-horned in.

This isn't a problem for Lady Shepard as she has had the option in the first, and I think the second, game. But anyone palying Man Shepard has already probably had two opposite sex romances, I'm not sure how they're going to work in the same sex romance.

I would say that it is a change, for once, I see no harm in making a trailer like this.

About time there was official recognition of a female Shepard! I don't know who that unshaven dude in the previous trailers was, but he ain't Shepard.
I'd be happy if they went with the default FemShep appearance. That's what I use as a starting point for my games, and just tweak it a bit.

I'm in favor...I'm all for equality.

But also, I have always found default Shep really boring looking.

Oh him?
He's just the poncy male model they hired to act the part of Shepard.

Shep is a dude to me. Always has been, and always will be. I respect those who play a FemShep as their main in Mass Effect, but for me she may as well not exist. It's cool that they want equal representation in their marketing campaign for once though.

I also have always thought Jennifer Hale's performance was overrated. It's good, but it's certainly not better than Mark Meer as MaleShep.
